## What it does

The skill hands your agent a text-to-speech path built on Qwen TTS. Two scripts do the work: `scripts/tts.py` covers Qwen TTS and Qwen Audio TTS over HTTP and WebSocket, while `scripts/tts_cosyvoice.py` handles CosyVoice over WebSocket and needs the `dashscope` SDK. Reference files in `references/` cover CosyVoice setup, text formatting for speech, voice selection and a curl fallback.

You need Python 3.9 and an API key. The scripts look for `QWENCLOUD_API_KEY`, then `QWEN_API_KEY`, then `DASHSCOPE_API_KEY`. A Token Plan key (`sk-sp-...`) is routed to the Token Plan endpoint automatically, but with that key you cannot use curl — stick to the bundled Python scripts. Coding Plan keys are out: TTS models are not available there. When no key is set, the skill suggests creating a `.env` with a placeholder and swapping in your own key from the QwenCloud Console rather than pasting it into the chat.

Voice is optional. For Qwen-Audio WebSocket models `tts.py` falls back to the model's configured default voice and prints a notice on stderr. Any voice you pass explicitly, `Cherry` included, goes through unchanged. Generating several files in one session? Add a numeric suffix to each name (`out_1.wav`, `out_2.wav`) or they overwrite each other. Model availability shifts, so check the current catalog before picking one.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add QwenCloud/qwencloud-ai --skill qwencloud-audio-tts -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/qwencloud-audio-tts/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/qwencloud-audio-tts/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add QwenCloud/qwencloud-ai --skill qwencloud-audio-tts -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/qwencloud-audio-tts/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add QwenCloud/qwencloud-ai --skill qwencloud-audio-tts -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/qwencloud-audio-tts/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install QwenCloud/qwencloud-ai qwencloud-audio-tts
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/qwencloud-audio-tts/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add QwenCloud/qwencloud-ai --skill qwencloud-audio-tts -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/QwenCloud/qwencloud-ai --path skills/audio/qwencloud-audio-tts
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/qwencloud-audio-tts/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add QwenCloud/qwencloud-ai --skill qwencloud-audio-tts -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- narrate an article or docs page
- generate a voiceover for a video
- produce audio from text inside a Python script
- stream speech over WebSocket
- match a voice to a specific Qwen model

## Example prompts
- use qwencloud-audio-tts to read this text aloud and save it as out_1.wav
- generate a voiceover for this README with a Qwen TTS model
- run the qwencloud-audio-tts skill and synthesize speech with the Cherry voice

## Security

**NEVER output any API key or credential in plaintext.** Always use variable references (`$QWENCLOUD_API_KEY` in shell, `os.environ["QWENCLOUD_API_KEY"]` in Python). The scripts accept `QWENCLOUD_API_KEY`, then `QWEN_API_KEY`, then `DASHSCOPE_API_KEY`. Any check or detection of credentials must be **non-plaintext**: report only status (e.g. "set" / "not set", "valid" / "invalid"), never the value. Never display contents of `.env` or config files that may contain secrets.
