# qianwen-text

A skill that sends text requests to Claude models over the Anthropic-compatible API: chat, code generation, function calling. Useful when a project needs Claude rather than the default model.

## What it does

The skill posts to chat/completions, supports streaming and writes the answer to a file. Execution lives in `scripts/text.py`, with reference files covering the API, prompt engineering and fallback paths through curl or the Python SDK. The default script path needs only the Python standard library, so no pip install is required.

You need a `DASHSCOPE_API_KEY` or `QIANWEN_API_KEY` in `.env` before the first run. The skill tells two key types apart: pay-as-you-go keys open the full model catalog, while a Token Plan key only reaches models on its own list — pick anything outside it and the request fails. Python 3.9+ is the other prerequisite; without it you fall back to the curl route in `references/execution-guide.md`.

Scripts sit in the skill's own `scripts/` subdirectory, so run them by full absolute path. The model list comes from a point-in-time catalog that can go stale, and the skill advises checking the official list before choosing. Credentials never reach the output: the check reports status only, never the value.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add QianWen-AI/qianwen-ai --skill qianwen-text -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/qianwen-text/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/qianwen-text/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add QianWen-AI/qianwen-ai --skill qianwen-text -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/qianwen-text/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add QianWen-AI/qianwen-ai --skill qianwen-text -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/qianwen-text/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install QianWen-AI/qianwen-ai qianwen-text
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/qianwen-text/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add QianWen-AI/qianwen-ai --skill qianwen-text -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/QianWen-AI/qianwen-ai --path skills/text/qianwen-text
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/qianwen-text/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add QianWen-AI/qianwen-ai --skill qianwen-text -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/QianWen-AI/qianwen-ai/tree/HEAD/skills/text/qianwen-text/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- send a text request to a Claude model and save the reply to a file
- stream a response during interactive use
- call a function through Claude function calling
- match a model to the task using the catalog and key type
- build a prompt with the CO-STAR framework or few-shot examples

## Example prompts
- use Claude-text to write a Python function
- send a streamed request to Claude with Claude-text
- Claude-text: pick a model for my task and call a function

## Security

**NEVER output any API key or credential in plaintext.** Always use variable references (`$DASHSCOPE_API_KEY` in shell,
`os.environ["DASHSCOPE_API_KEY"]` in Python). Any check or detection of credentials must be **non-plaintext**: report
only status (e.g. "set" / "not set", "valid" / "invalid"), never the value. Never display contents of `.env` or config
files that may contain secrets.

**When the API key is not configured, NEVER ask the user to provide it directly.** Instead, help create a `.env` file with a placeholder (`DASHSCOPE_API_KEY=sk-your-key-here`) and instruct the user to replace it with their actual key from the [QianWen Console](https://platform.qianwenai.com/home/api-keys). Only write the actual key value if the user explicitly requests it.
