# qa-report-humanizer

Strips template phrasing out of QA reports, bug reports and status updates without touching the numbers. Useful when a report reads like it wrote itself.

## What it does

The skill rewrites QA reports, bug reports, test summaries and status updates. It looks for the usual tells: a ceremonial opener about successful execution, inflated severity wording, an obsession with the pass rate, generic risk language, synonym cycling for the same result, and a vague closing paragraph. Each one gets replaced with something concrete.

Before rewriting, it checks `.agents/qa-project-context.md` for the team's tone, tracker and severity conventions. If that file is missing, it asks what changes the rewrite: who reads this (an engineer, an exec or a customer), which channel it goes to (Slack, a PR comment or a formal report), and whether anything is deliberately withheld from that audience. Five principles then guide the edits: specific beats comprehensive, say what happened rather than which category it falls into, write for the person who has to fix it, preserve facts and uncertainty, and never invent the specifics you were asked to add.

The hard limit is that it does not fill gaps. If the source has no affected-user number, the rewrite says user impact was not measured instead of making up a percentage. Counts, severities, error strings, test names, commit IDs and qualifiers like suspected or not reproduced stay attached to the same result. It is not meant for general prose, blogs or marketing copy — that is the global humanizer skill — and CI failure triage belongs to ai-bug-triage.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill qa-report-humanizer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/qa-report-humanizer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/qa-report-humanizer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill qa-report-humanizer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/qa-report-humanizer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill qa-report-humanizer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/qa-report-humanizer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install petrkindlmann/qa-skills qa-report-humanizer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/qa-report-humanizer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill qa-report-humanizer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/petrkindlmann/qa-skills --path skills/qa-report-humanizer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/qa-report-humanizer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill qa-report-humanizer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/petrkindlmann/qa-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/qa-report-humanizer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- rewrite a test summary so it reads like an engineer wrote it
- cut inflated severity wording out of a bug report
- trim a status update down to a couple of lines for Slack
- write a stakeholder report without the template opener
- flag where a report lacks specifics instead of inventing them

## Example prompts
- humanize this QA report, keep the numbers as they are
- turn this test summary into a short Slack status update
- clean up the template phrasing in this bug report, leave severity alone

<objective>
A polished QA report that says nothing is worse than a rough one that says what broke.
"A critical defect was identified in the authentication module" passes every grammar
check and tells the reader nothing. This skill rewrites QA reports, bug reports, test
summaries, and status updates so a real engineer can act on them. Preserve the source's
facts and uncertainty; compare the rewrite with the source before delivering it.
</objective>

## Discovery Questions

Check `.agents/qa-project-context.md` first — it carries the team's tone, the tracker, and
severity conventions; skip anything answered there. Then clarify only what changes the rewrite:

- **Who reads this — an engineer, an exec, or a customer?** An engineer wants the failing
  selector and the repro; an exec wants ship/no-ship and open blockers; a customer wants
  impact and timeline. The register and what you cut differ for each.
- **What channel — Slack, PR comment, or a formal report?** Slack gets 2-3 lines and a
  link; a PR comment gets the specific code/selector fix; a report gets structure. Length
  and formatting follow the channel.
- **Is any information deliberately excluded from this audience?** Otherwise keep every
  supplied count, percentage, severity, identifier, result, and material qualification.
```
