## What it does

The skill splits TypeScript work into 44 rules across eight categories: type system performance, compiler configuration, async patterns, module organization, type safety, memory, runtime optimization and advanced patterns. Each rule has a prefix (`type-`, `tscfg-`, `async-`, `module-`, `safety-`, `mem-`, `runtime-`, `advanced-`) and lives in its own file under `references/`. The agent pulls the file it needs when you ask about a specific spot.

The top categories are marked CRITICAL: explicit return types on exported functions, no deeply nested generics or oversized union types, conditional types extracted into named aliases, proper `include` and `exclude`, incremental builds, `isolatedModules`, project references. There is a separate entry for TypeScript 7 migration. Async and module rules follow: no `await` inside loops, `Promise.all` for independent calls, no barrel files, type-only imports.

Memory and runtime rules sit at MEDIUM and LOW-MEDIUM, and that ranking is fair. Cleaning up listeners and timers matters in long-lived processes, while advice like dropping object spread from a hot loop is worth applying only after you measure. The material targets TypeScript 7, so on an older compiler some config entries need adjusting to your version.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PyModel/react-frontend-skills --skill typescript -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/typescript/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/typescript/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PyModel/react-frontend-skills --skill typescript -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/typescript/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PyModel/react-frontend-skills --skill typescript -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/typescript/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install PyModel/react-frontend-skills typescript
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/typescript/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PyModel/react-frontend-skills --skill typescript -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/PyModel/react-frontend-skills --path skills/typescript
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/typescript/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PyModel/react-frontend-skills --skill typescript -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- set up `tsconfig.json` for a new project
- speed up declaration emit in a large codebase
- find out why the compiler chokes on complex types
- turn sequential `await` calls in a loop into parallel ones
- stop memory leaks from listeners and timers that never get cleaned up

## Example prompts
- check my `tsconfig.json` against the typescript skill rules
- why are our types slow to compile — walk the `type-` rules
- rewrite this loop with `await` following the `async-` rules

# TypeScript Best Practices

Comprehensive TypeScript 7-compatible guide with 44 rules across 8 categories, covering compiler configuration, type-system performance, async code, modules, safety, and measured runtime optimization.

## When to Apply

Reference these guidelines when:
- Configuring tsconfig.json for a new or existing project
- Writing complex type definitions or generics
- Optimizing async/await patterns and data fetching
- Organizing modules and managing imports
- Reviewing code for compilation or runtime performance

## Rule Categories by Priority

| Priority | Category | Impact | Prefix |
|----------|----------|--------|--------|
| 1 | Type System Performance | CRITICAL | `type-` |
| 2 | Compiler Configuration | CRITICAL | `tscfg-` |
| 3 | Async Patterns | HIGH | `async-` |
| 4 | Module Organization | HIGH | `module-` |
| 5 | Type Safety Patterns | MEDIUM-HIGH | `safety-` |
| 6 | Memory Management | MEDIUM | `mem-` |
| 7 | Runtime Optimization | LOW-MEDIUM | `runtime-` |
| 8 | Advanced Patterns | LOW | `advanced-` |
