# pwa-development

A skill for building Progressive Web Apps: manifest, service worker, caching strategies and offline mode. Useful when the app has to install on a phone and open without a network.

## What it does

The skill activates when the agent touches `sw.*`, `service-worker.*`, `workbox-config.*` or `manifest.json`. Inside are the three pillars of a PWA: HTTPS, a service worker and a web app manifest. Chrome installability needs a service worker with a `fetch` handler, plus `name`, 192px and 512px icons, `start_url` and `display` set to `standalone`, `fullscreen` or `minimal-ui` in the manifest.

For the manifest it ships ready field sets: a basic one and an enhanced one with `screenshots`, `shortcuts`, `share_target`, `protocol_handlers` and `file_handlers`. There is also a checklist covering `theme_color`, `background_color` for the splash screen and a maskable icon for Android adaptive icons.

Service worker templates cover caching static assets on `install`, clearing old caches on `activate` and serving from cache with a network fallback on `fetch`, plus registration through `navigator.serviceWorker.register`. A strategy selection table follows, with Cache First for static assets. HTTPS is required, with localhost as the development exception: over plain http the service worker will not register at all.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill pwa-development -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pwa-development/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pwa-development/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill pwa-development -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pwa-development/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill pwa-development -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pwa-development/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install alinaqi/maggy pwa-development
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pwa-development/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill pwa-development -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/alinaqi/maggy --path skills/pwa-development
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pwa-development/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill pwa-development -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- build a manifest with icons and `start_url`
- write a service worker with a `fetch` handler
- pick a caching strategy per asset type
- show an offline page when the network drops
- clear old caches on a version bump

## Example prompts
- add a manifest and service worker to this project for offline use
- pick a caching strategy for images and static assets
- why doesn't Chrome offer to install my app?
