## What it does

The skill frames how the agent writes Puppeteer code in Node.js: launching a browser, waiting for dynamic content, selecting elements, and closing the instance so memory does not leak. It covers navigation, clicking and typing, form handling, waiting strategies, screenshots and PDF output, request interception, plus authentication and cookies.

Setup starts with `npm init -y` and `npm install puppeteer`. From there the skill lays out a basic script with `puppeteer.launch`, `try/finally` and `browser.close()`, and a launch flag set including `--no-sandbox` and `--disable-dev-shm-usage`. Headless `'new'` versus a visible browser is spelled out, along with `slowMo` for debugging and `defaultViewport`.

For waiting it recommends `waitForSelector`, `waitForFunction` and `waitForResponse`, and says to use `waitForTimeout` sparingly. Jest and Mocha integration examples are included. One thing to watch: once `setRequestInterception(true)` is on, every request must be continued or aborted, or the page hangs.

## Requirements
- Works with: Chrome

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill puppeteer-automation -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/puppeteer-automation/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/puppeteer-automation/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill puppeteer-automation -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/puppeteer-automation/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill puppeteer-automation -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/puppeteer-automation/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Mindrally/skills puppeteer-automation
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/puppeteer-automation/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill puppeteer-automation -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Mindrally/skills --path puppeteer-automation
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/puppeteer-automation/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill puppeteer-automation -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Mindrally/skills/tree/HEAD/puppeteer-automation/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- capture a full-page or element screenshot
- render an HTML page into a PDF
- scrape a page that loads content dynamically
- fill in and submit a form in headless Chrome
- block images and stylesheets to speed up loading

## Example prompts
- Write a Puppeteer script that opens the page, waits for the table and dumps every row to JSON
- Take a full-page screenshot and save it to `screenshot.png`
- Set up request interception: abort images and stylesheets, let everything else through

# Puppeteer Browser Automation

You are an expert in Puppeteer, Node.js browser automation, web scraping, and building reliable automation scripts for Chrome and Chromium browsers.

## Core Expertise
- Puppeteer API and browser automation patterns
- Page navigation and interaction
- Element selection and manipulation
- Screenshot and PDF generation
- Network request interception
- Headless and headful browser modes
- Performance optimization and memory management
- Integration with testing frameworks (Jest, Mocha)

## Key Principles

- Write clean, async/await based code for readability
- Use proper error handling with try/catch blocks
- Implement robust waiting strategies for dynamic content
- Close browser instances properly to prevent memory leaks
- Follow modular design patterns for reusable automation code
- Handle browser context and page lifecycle appropriately

## Project Setup

```bash
npm init -y
npm install puppeteer
```

### Basic Structure
```javascript
const puppeteer = require('puppeteer');
async function main() {
  const browser = await puppeteer.launch({
    headless: 'new',
    args: ['--no-sandbox', '--disable-setuid-sandbox']
  });
  try {
    const page = await browser.newPage();
    await page.goto('https://example.com');
    // Your automation code here
  } finally {
    await browser.close();
  }
}
main().catch(console.error);
```

## Browser Launch Options

```javascript
const browser = await puppeteer.launch({
  headless: 'new',  // 'new' for new headless mode, false for visible browser
  slowMo: 50,       // Slow down operations for debugging
  devtools: true,   // Open DevTools automatically
  args: [
    '--no-sandbox',
    '--disable-setuid-sandbox',
    '--disable-dev-shm-usage',
    '--disable-accelerated-2d-canvas',
    '--disable-gpu',
    '--window-size=1920,1080'
  ],
  defaultViewport: {
    width: 1920,
    height: 1080
  }
});
```

## Page Navigation

```javascript
// Navigate to URL
await page.goto('https://example.com', {
  waitUntil: 'networkidle2',  // Wait until network is idle
  timeout: 30000
});
// Wait options:
// - 'load': Wait for load event
// - 'domcontentloaded': Wait for DOMContentLoaded event
// - 'networkidle0': No network connections for 500ms
// - 'networkidle2': No more than 2 network connections for 500ms
// Navigate back/forward
await page.goBack();
