## What it does

The library groups prompts by role and task. It includes patterns for reviewing code, tracking down bugs, writing tests, documenting APIs, and examining complexity, performance, or security. There are also templates for brainstorming and moving code between languages. Choose one, then give the agent the relevant code and context.

A separate section covers prompt techniques, including example-based instructions, persona setup, and structured output. The testing template expects you to name the framework and its conventions, so supply those along with the code. This skill provides prompt patterns; it does not run the checks for you.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill ai-research/prompt-library
```

2. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add davila7/claude-code-templates --skill prompt-library -a claude-code
```

3. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/prompt-library/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/prompt-library/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/prompt-library/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/prompt-library/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install davila7/claude-code-templates prompt-library
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/prompt-library/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates --path cli-tool/components/skills/ai-research/prompt-library
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/prompt-library/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/skills/ai-research/prompt-library

## When to use it
- prepare a focused code review request
- outline a prompt for debugging a failure
- draft test-generation instructions for a chosen framework
- ask for a performance analysis with ranked findings
- guide a code migration between languages

## Example prompts
- Review this code for bugs and explain which changes you recommend.
- Write tests for this code using Jest conventions.
- Analyze this code’s performance and rank the findings by impact.
