## What it does

The skill walks you through questions about your product, audience and assets, then returns a plan split into phases: pre-launch, launch week, an hour-by-hour launch day and post-launch. It reads a reference file at `./references/ultimate_product_hunt_launch_guide.md` first and treats that as blocking, so the skill will not run without it.

If `FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md` sits in your project root, the skill pulls the product name, description, audience and traction from it and skips the questions already answered there. Otherwise everything comes from the discovery questions, up to ten of them.

Expect templates for outreach emails and social posts, a launch-day timeline in your timezone, and a list of alternative launch platforms. The author's own rules tell the skill to stay realistic: if your support base is small it should not promise a first-place finish, and if your timeline is too tight it should suggest rescheduling. Worth knowing before you trust the output.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill product-hunt-launch-plan -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/product-hunt-launch-plan/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/product-hunt-launch-plan/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill product-hunt-launch-plan -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/product-hunt-launch-plan/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill product-hunt-launch-plan -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/product-hunt-launch-plan/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**

gh skill install ognjengt/founder-skills product-hunt-launch-plan
```
2. **Manually: put the files in place**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill product-hunt-launch-plan -a opencode
```
### Claude.ai
**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills
Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/ognjengt/founder-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/product-hunt-launch-plan/SKILL.md
## When to use it
- build a Product Hunt launch plan around one specific product
- spot which assets are still missing before launch day
- map launch day hour by hour in your own timezone
- draft outreach emails and social posts for supporters
# Product Hunt Launch Plan
## Purpose
Generate a comprehensive, personalized Product Hunt launch plan with actionable steps from A-Z to help the user rank #1 Product of the Day.
---
## Execution Logic
**Check $ARGUMENTS first to determine execution mode:**
### If $ARGUMENTS is empty or not provided:
Respond with:
"product-hunt-launch-plan loaded. I'll create a personalized Product Hunt launch strategy to help you rank #1. Let me gather some information about your product first."
Then proceed to the Discovery Questions phase.
### If $ARGUMENTS contains content:
Use the provided content as initial context, but still proceed through Discovery Questions to fill any gaps.
## Task Execution
When user engages with this skill:
### 1. MANDATORY: Read Reference Files FIRST
**BLOCKING REQUIREMENT — DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP**
Before doing ANYTHING else, you MUST use the Read tool to read the reference file:
```
Read: ./references/ultimate_product_hunt_launch_guide.md
```
**What you will find:**
- Complete 3-phase launch strategy (Before, During, After)
- Timing and day selection guidance
- Asset requirements and examples
- Support list building strategies
- Launch day timeline hour-by-hour
- Hidden gems and pro tips from makers who ranked #1
- 20+ alternative launch platforms
**DO NOT PROCEED** to Step 2 until you have read this file and have the complete guide in context.
### 2. Check for Business Context
Check if `FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md` exists in the project root.
- **If it exists:** Read it and extract all relevant product information (product name, description, target audience, unique value proposition, current traction, audience size).
- **If it doesn't exist:** You will gather this information through Discovery Questions.
### 3. Discovery Questions (MANDATORY)
**Ask up to 10 targeted questions to personalize the launch plan.**
Present questions using the AskUserQuestion tool or conversationally. Gather:
1. **Product Basics**
   - What is your product name and one-line description?
   - What problem does it solve and for whom?
2. **Current State**
   - What's your current launch date (or target timeframe)?
   - Do you have a Product Hunt account? Is it active/warmed?
3. **Audience & Reach**
   - How large is your email list?
   - What's your Twitter/X following size?
