## What it does

The skill is split into modules, and the agent reads only the ones it needs. `idea-generator/` helps brainstorm and filter ideas, while `app-namer/` proposes names and checks whether they are free in App Store Connect. Then `product-agent/`, `market-research/` and `competitive-analysis/` cover validation, market sizing and competitors.

Spec generation lives in `prd-generator/`, `architecture-spec/`, `ux-spec/`, `implementation-guide/`, `test-spec/` and `release-spec/`. Two more modules handle `beta-testing/` with TestFlight and `localization-strategy/` for languages and metadata. If you want everything at once, the `implementation-spec/` orchestrator produces the full package and calls the other generators itself.

The skill reads and writes files through `Read`, `Write`, `Glob` and `Grep`, and pulls market data with `WebFetch` and `WebSearch`. It also asks questions via `AskUserQuestion` — skip those answers about your skills, interests and constraints and the idea ranking turns generic. Scope is iOS and macOS only, so web or Android projects get little out of it.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rshankras/claude-code-apple-skills --skill product-development -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add rshankras/claude-code-apple-skills --skill product -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/product/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/product/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rshankras/claude-code-apple-skills --skill product -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/product/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rshankras/claude-code-apple-skills --skill product -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/product/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install rshankras/claude-code-apple-skills product
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/product/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rshankras/claude-code-apple-skills --skill product -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/rshankras/claude-code-apple-skills --path skills/product
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/product/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rshankras/claude-code-apple-skills --skill product -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/rshankras/claude-code-apple-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/product/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- validate an app idea before writing code
- produce a PRD with user stories and acceptance criteria
- pick an architecture and stack for an iOS project
- plan a TestFlight beta program
- prepare an App Store submission without missing requirements

## Example prompts
- help me pick an iOS app idea and score it
- generate a PRD for my app
- build the full spec package with implementation-spec

# Product Development Expert

Comprehensive product development guidance for iOS/macOS apps. This skill orchestrates the entire product lifecycle from idea validation to App Store release.

## When This Skill Activates

Use this skill when the user:
- Has an app idea and wants to validate it
- Needs market research or competitive analysis
- Wants to generate product specifications
- Needs architecture or UX design documents
- Is preparing for App Store submission
- Wants to plan beta testing or TestFlight strategy
- Needs localization strategy or market expansion planning
- Wants end-to-end product planning

## Available Modules

Read relevant module files based on the user's needs:

### Phase 0: Idea Discovery

**idea-generator/**
Brainstorm and rank app ideas via 5 lenses.
- Developer profile elicitation (skills, interests, constraints)
- Five brainstorming lenses (skills, problem-first, technology-first, market gap, trend-based)
- Feasibility filtering and scoring
- Ranked shortlist of 3-5 ideas with `next_step` commands

**app-namer/**
Turn a chosen idea into validated, App-Store-ready name candidates.
- Branded vs. descriptive vs. hybrid archetypes, paired with a subtitle
- App Store display rules (30-char limit, Home-Screen truncation, name/subtitle interplay)
- Validation gauntlet: App Store Connect name, trademark knockout, domain/.app, social handle, linguistic safety
- Ranked shortlist with scores and a "reserve now" action; feeds `app-store/keyword-optimizer`

### Discovery & Validation

**product-agent/**
AI-powered product discovery and validation.
- Idea validation and assessment
- MVP scoping
- Market opportunity analysis

**market-research/**
Deep market analysis.
- Market sizing (TAM/SAM/SOM)
- Growth trends and maturity
- Entry barriers and distribution channels
- Revenue potential

**competitive-analysis/**
Competitor deep dive.
- Feature comparison matrices
- Pricing analysis
- Strengths/weaknesses
- Differentiation opportunities

### Specification Generation

**prd-generator/**
Product Requirements Document.
- Features and user stories
- Acceptance criteria
- Success metrics

**architecture-spec/**
Technical architecture.
