## What it does

The skill turns public posts and comments into a demand report for a product category. It looks for repeated complaints, phrases like "I wish" or "is there a tool", mentions of alternatives and manual workarounds, and hints that people would pay. Objections to existing solutions get their own section.

The workflow runs in steps: your idea becomes search queries and synonyms, then Reddit and other platforms get searched, comments and video transcripts are pulled for promising posts, and findings are clustered by pain, trigger and desired outcome. Demand is scored on frequency, intensity and recency. Output is a markdown report with a pain table, exact customer language and source links, plus sections for alternatives, barriers and messaging angles.

You need `SCRAPECREATORS_API_KEY` in your environment. The skill uses `Bash`, `Read`, `Write` and `WebFetch`. The author warns against calling a market validated off a handful of comments, and against skipping negative evidence or existing alternatives. If you want hard market-size numbers, look elsewhere: this gives qualitative signals, not sales statistics.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ScrapeCreators/social-media-research-skills --skill product-demand-research -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/product-demand-research/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/product-demand-research/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ScrapeCreators/social-media-research-skills --skill product-demand-research -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/product-demand-research/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ScrapeCreators/social-media-research-skills --skill product-demand-research -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/product-demand-research/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install ScrapeCreators/social-media-research-skills product-demand-research
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/product-demand-research/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ScrapeCreators/social-media-research-skills --skill product-demand-research -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**

gemini skills install https://github.com/ScrapeCreators/social-media-research-skills --path skills/product-demand-research
```
### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)
**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/product-demand-research/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works
### OpenCode
**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
## When to use it
- validate a startup idea before writing code
- collect pain points from Reddit comment threads
- find what people use instead of your product today
- list objections buyers raise about existing tools
- gather customer wording for landing page copy
## Example prompts
- validate demand for an expense tracker for freelancers
- find pain points and objections in the habit tracker category on Reddit
- pull buyer quotes about invoicing tools
# Product Demand Research
## Overview
Use public social data to understand whether people actually complain about, ask for, buy, hack around, or recommend solutions in a product category. The output should help founders and marketers decide what to build, position, or test.
## When to Use
Use this skill when the user asks to:
- validate a startup or product idea
- find pain points in a niche
- mine Reddit/TikTok/YouTube comments for product ideas
- find buyer language and objections
- understand alternatives people use today
- create messaging from demand evidence
## Signals to Extract
- repeated complaints
- "I wish" / "is there a tool" / "how do I" phrases
- workarounds and spreadsheets/manual processes
- comparison and alternative mentions
- buying intent
- objections to existing solutions
- exact words people use for the problem
## Workflow
1. Turn the idea into search queries and synonyms.
2. Search Reddit and relevant social platforms.
3. Pull comments/transcripts for promising posts/videos.
4. Cluster pains, triggers, alternatives, and desired outcomes.
5. Score demand by frequency, intensity, recency, and willingness-to-pay hints.
6. Produce messaging and product implications.
## Output Format
```markdown
# Product Demand Research: {idea/category}

## Verdict
- Demand signal: Strong/Medium/Weak
- Confidence: High/Medium/Low
- Why:

## Pain Points
| Pain | Evidence | Exact language | Source |
|---|---|---|---|

## Existing Alternatives / Workarounds
- ...

## Objections and Barriers
- ...

## Messaging Angles
