## What it does

A procedure in Vovk.ts represents a typed server-side logic unit with schema validation via Zod, Valibot, or ArkType. The skill guides the agent in structuring `procedure({ ... }).handle(...)` calls, cleanly separating controllers from domain services.

Vovk treats HTTP as an opt-in layer. You can execute any procedure directly inside React Server Components or server actions using `.fn()`. HTTP decorators like `@get` or `@post` are added only when an external endpoint or a generated browser RPC client is needed.

This skill avoids segment routing and client RPC generation; `route.ts` logic belongs to the `segment` skill, and `@/client` imports belong to `rpc`. Services must never touch `VovkRequest`. If business logic requires request objects directly, the layer boundaries are broken.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add finom/vovk --skill procedure -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/procedure/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/procedure/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add finom/vovk --skill procedure -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/procedure/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add finom/vovk --skill procedure -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/procedure/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install finom/vovk procedure
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/procedure/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add finom/vovk --skill procedure -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/finom/vovk --path skills/procedure
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/procedure/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add finom/vovk --skill procedure -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- build a typed Vovk.ts server procedure with input schema validation
- execute server functions inside React Server Components using .fn()
- separate thin HTTP controllers from domain business services
- handle multipart form uploads and API exceptions with explicit status codes

## Example prompts
- Build a user profile procedure with Zod validation and handle errors
- Add a file upload procedure using @post and multipart form data
- Create a product query procedure to call from a React Server Component via .fn()

name: procedure
description: Vovk.ts procedures in depth (`base` already has a complete endpoint, validation, errors and status codes) — atomic unit of server-side logic in Vovk project. Use whenever user asks to build ANYTHING producing or consuming data on server — page loading data ("users page", "dashboard", "product list"), endpoint, API handler, server action, form submission, controller, validation with Zod / Valibot / ArkType, request/response shape, file upload, file download, error handling (`HttpException`, status codes), content types (JSON, multipart, text, binary), or calling server code from React Server Component / SSR / SSG / PPR / server action. Triggers on phrasings like "build a users page", "add an endpoint", "create a form handler", "fetch X from the server", "handle file upload", "validate input", "throw a 404", "server action for Y", "controller for Z", "add `req.body` parsing", ".fn()", "CORS". # Vovk.ts procedures

**Procedure** = typed, validated server-logic unit. Built with `procedure({ ... }).handle(...)`. Atom of every Vovk app.

**Mental model:**

- **Procedure valuable alone.** Typed server function — call via `.fn()` from RSC, server actions, SSR/SSG/PPR, any server code. No HTTP.
- **HTTP decorator (`@get`, `@post`, `@put`, `@patch`, `@del`) OPTIONAL.** Add only when exposing procedure as HTTP endpoint (also makes callable via generated RPC client from browser).

Opposite of most frameworks: procedures first, HTTP opt-in.

## Procedure, minimally

```ts
import { procedure } from 'vovk';
import { z } from 'zod';
class UserController {
  static getUser = procedure({
    params: z.object({ id: z.string().uuid() }),
    output: z.object({ id: z.string(), email: z.email() }),
  }).handle(async (_req, { id }) => {
    return UserService.byId(id); // plain call
  });
}
```

**What you have:**

- Typed, validated procedure.
- Callable from ANY server code via `UserController.getUser.fn({ params: { id: '…' } })`.
- **Not** HTTP endpoint. Not in generated RPC client.

Expose over HTTP — add HTTP decorator:

```ts
import { z } from 'zod';
import { get, prefix, procedure } from 'vovk';
import UserService from './user-service';
@prefix('users')
export default class UserController {
  @get('{id}')
  static getUser = procedure({
    params: z.object({ id: z.string().uuid() }),
    output: z.object({ id: z.string(), email: z.email() }),
  }).handle(async (_req, { id }) => {
    return UserService.byId(id);
  });
}
```
