## What it does

The skill sorts privilege-log entries into clearly privileged, clearly not privileged, and entries that need attorney review. It records the reasons for flags. An attorney must review every flagged entry before production.

Before handling documents obtained through disclosure or discovery, it asks about restrictions on their use. It loads the review protocol and log format from `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/litigation-legal/CLAUDE.md`, then uses the active matter workspace when one is selected.

The review stops when the matter slug is missing from `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/litigation-legal/matters/_log.yaml`. That means conflicts intake must run first with `/litigation-legal:matter-intake`. It also calls for research into the selected forum's log rules, local variants, and the judge's standing orders.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill privilege-log-review -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/privilege-log-review/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/privilege-log-review/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill privilege-log-review -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/privilege-log-review/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill privilege-log-review -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/privilege-log-review/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anthropics/claude-for-legal privilege-log-review
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/privilege-log-review/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill privilege-log-review -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal --path litigation-legal/skills/privilege-log-review
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/privilege-log-review/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill privilege-log-review -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal/tree/HEAD/litigation-legal/skills/privilege-log-review/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- classify privilege-log entries on a first pass
- flag difficult privilege calls for an attorney
- check use restrictions on disclosed documents
- block review until matter conflicts intake is complete
- research forum-specific privilege-log requirements

## Example prompts
- \`/privilege-log-review review this privilege log before production`
- \`/privilege-log-review check privilege on these documents`
- \`/privilege-log-review perform a first-pass priv log review`

## Disclosed-document use restrictions

Before working with a set of litigation documents, ask: "Were any of these documents obtained through disclosure or discovery in legal proceedings?" If yes:

- **England & Wales (CPR 31.22):** Documents obtained through disclosure are subject to the implied undertaking — you may only use them for the purpose of the proceedings in which they were disclosed, unless the court grants permission, the disclosing party consents, or the document has been read in open court. Using them for a different matter, a different claim, or a commercial purpose without permission is a contempt.
- **US:** Protective orders and Rule 26(c) may impose similar restrictions. Check the order.
- **Other jurisdictions:** Similar restrictions commonly apply. Check the local rule.

Confirm: "This use is within the proceedings in which the documents were disclosed, or I have permission / consent, or the documents are now public." If not confirmed, flag it: "⚠️ Disclosed documents may have use restrictions. Confirm this use is permitted before proceeding."

## Matter context

**Matter context.** Check `## Matter workspaces` in the practice-level CLAUDE.md. For litigation-legal the default is `Enabled: ✓` — every case gets its own matter workspace. If `Enabled` is `✗` (you turned it off because you work one case at a time), skip the rest of this paragraph and use practice-level context. If enabled and there is no active matter, ask: "Which matter is this for? Run `/litigation-legal:matter-workspace switch <slug>` or say `practice-level`." Load the active matter's `matter.md` for matter-specific context and overrides. Write outputs to the matter folder at `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/litigation-legal/matters/<matter-slug>/`. Never read another matter's files unless `Cross-matter context` is `on`.
