## What it does

The skill hands your agent a set of rules for pull requests. Titles follow `type(scope): description`, with types running from `feat` to `ci`. Descriptions get a template: a short summary, linked tickets, what was added and changed, screenshots for UI work, a test plan.

Size gets its own section. The target is under 300 changed lines and under 15 files, which keeps a review inside half an hour. Categories from XS to XL spell out when to split: by layer, by feature phase, or by risk. A separate template covers refactoring PRs and reports added versus removed lines.

There is also a list of common mistakes and a checklist for the reviewer. The skill carries `user-invocable: false` and `disable-model-invocation: true`, so you cannot call it yourself — it sits in context as reference material. Worth installing when reviews keep stalling on things like a stray `console.log` in the diff.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill pr-quality-checklist -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pr-quality-checklist/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pr-quality-checklist/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill pr-quality-checklist -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pr-quality-checklist/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill pr-quality-checklist -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pr-quality-checklist/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills pr-quality-checklist
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pr-quality-checklist/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill pr-quality-checklist -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --path toolchains/universal/pr/pr-quality-checklist
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pr-quality-checklist/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill pr-quality-checklist -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills/tree/HEAD/toolchains/universal/pr/pr-quality-checklist/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- keep PR titles in one agreed format
- write a description with a test plan and ticket links
- decide whether a large diff needs splitting
- strip debug code before opening a PR
- set the same PR bar for new team members

## Example prompts
- Run my pull request through the pr-quality-checklist skill and list what to fix before I open it
- Draft the PR description using the skill's template: summary, linked tickets, test plan
- 600 lines across 20 files — use the skill's size guidelines to suggest how to split it

# PR Quality Checklist Skill

## Summary
Comprehensive guide for creating high-quality pull requests that are easy to review, well-documented, and follow team standards. Includes templates, size guidelines, and best practices for both authors and reviewers.

## When to Use
- Before creating any pull request
- When reviewing others' PRs
- To establish team PR standards
- During onboarding of new team members
- When PR reviews are taking too long

## Quick Checklist

### Before Creating PR
- [ ] PR title follows convention: `type(scope): description`
- [ ] Description includes summary, related tickets, and test plan
- [ ] Changes are focused and related (single concern)
- [ ] Code is self-reviewed for obvious issues
- [ ] Tests added/updated and passing
- [ ] No debugging code (console.log, debugger, etc.)
- [ ] TypeScript/type errors resolved
- [ ] Documentation updated if needed
- [ ] Screenshots included for UI changes
- [ ] Changeset added (for user-facing changes)

---

## PR Title Format

### Convention
```
{type}({scope}): {short description}
```

### Types
- **feat**: New feature
- **fix**: Bug fix
- **refactor**: Code change that neither fixes a bug nor adds a feature
- **docs**: Documentation only
- **style**: Formatting, missing semicolons, etc. (no code change)
- **test**: Adding or updating tests
- **chore**: Maintenance tasks, dependency updates
- **perf**: Performance improvement
- **ci**: CI/CD changes

### Examples
```
feat(auth): add OAuth2 login support
fix(cart): resolve race condition in checkout
refactor(search): extract query param parsing logic
docs(api): update authentication examples
test(payment): add integration tests for Stripe
chore(deps): update Next.js to v15
perf(images): implement lazy loading for gallery
ci(deploy): add staging environment workflow
```

### Scope Guidelines
- Use component/module name: `auth`, `cart`, `search`, `api`
- Be specific but not too granular: `user-profile` not `user-profile-settings-modal`
- Consistent with codebase structure

---

## PR Description Template

### Standard Template
```markdown
## Summary
<!-- 1-3 bullet points describing what changed -->
````
END THIRD-PARTY FILE 062d534c5124d443

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the 062d534c5124d443 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
