## What it does

This skill takes over the routine work on open pull requests. It inspects check runs across GitHub Actions, Buildkite, Vercel, and Fly.io. Whenever a branch falls behind upstream, it runs an update. Conflicts in lockfiles or generated assets get rebuilt automatically. If merge conflicts touch application logic, database migrations, or public contracts, it aborts via `git merge --abort` and alerts the developer.

The monitor checks the PR every 2 minutes by default. It fetches incoming review activity with `scripts/fetch-comments.sh` and outlines responses, but never posts comments or resolves threads without explicit user approval. Once merged, it follows post-merge deployment checks and runs a read-only smoke test on production.

Running this tool requires an active Git repository, an authenticated GitHub CLI (`gh`), and `jq`. Continuous background monitoring also depends on a supported scheduler or event hook.

## Requirements
- Works with: GitHub

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mblode/agent-skills --skill pr-babysitter -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pr-babysitter/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pr-babysitter/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mblode/agent-skills --skill pr-babysitter -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pr-babysitter/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mblode/agent-skills --skill pr-babysitter -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pr-babysitter/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mblode/agent-skills pr-babysitter
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pr-babysitter/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mblode/agent-skills --skill pr-babysitter -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mblode/agent-skills --path skills/pr-babysitter
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pr-babysitter/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mblode/agent-skills --skill pr-babysitter -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mblode/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/pr-babysitter/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- diagnose and fix failing CI runs across supported build platforms
- resolve merge conflicts in lockfiles and generated assets after branch updates
- triage review threads and draft replies without publishing unauthorized comments
- track PR merge readiness and execute post-deploy smoke tests

## Example prompts
- Watch this PR and keep CI green
- Resolve conflicts and rebase onto main
- Triage review comments and show what is blocking merge

# PR Babysitter

- **IS:** keeping one open PR moving: conflicts, CI across GitHub Actions/Buildkite/Vercel/Fly.io, inbound review comments, and merge readiness, then following the merge through the repo's post-merge watch, as a background monitor or as one-shot fixes.
- **IS NOT:** opening or editing the PR (`pr-creator`), reviewing or fixing the diff itself (`tidy`), or npm release PRs (`autoship` watches its own release CI; never babysit a release or Version Packages PR it drives).

## Mode Selection

| Invocation | Mode |
|------------|------|
| "babysit", "watch this PR", "monitor", "keep it green" | Monitor: Phase 1 once, then affected phases on state changes |
| "fix CI", "why is CI red", "loop on CI" | One-shot Phase 3 loop |
| "resolve conflicts", "rebase onto main", "update the branch" | One-shot Phase 2 |
| "address the comments", "reply to the reviewers", "triage review comments" | One-shot Comment Triage Workflow |
| "is it ready", "what is blocking the merge" | One-shot Phase 5 report |

Standing rules, every mode:

- Monitoring or fixing code does not by itself authorize posting replies. Post, resolve threads, or request reviews only when the user authorized that communication; otherwise prepare replies and report them.
- Resolve `scripts/fetch-comments.sh` relative to this installed SKILL.md. `${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}` below is a Claude Code adapter, not a portable environment variable.

- No setup questions. Auto-detect the PR, the CI platforms, and the defaults (poll every 2 minutes, auto-resolve noise, no auto-merge), then start. Overrides arrive inline: "poll every 5 minutes", "enable auto-merge".
- Skip closed PRs. Skip drafts (`isDraft`) unless asked. A merged PR goes on to the repo's post-merge watch: wait for the `watch/<env>` commit statuses on the merge SHA, stop at the first `failure` or `error`, and report the result (Post-merge Watch in `references/monitoring-setup.md`). If the base it merged onto (the merge commit's first parent, or for a rebase merge the commit before the PR's rebased commits) has no `watch/*` status, report "no post-merge watch". Either way, once the merge is live in production, smoke-test the change there read-only (Production smoke test in the same reference), report that too, and stop.
- Comment triage runs autonomously; the plan file is an audit trail, not an approval gate.
- Speak only on transitions. A quiet poll says nothing.
