## What it does

The skill drives the `youtube-pp-cli` binary over YouTube Data API v3. It keeps a local SQLite databank: you register competitor channels in a `watch` list, and `monitor` refreshes all of them in one run — a stats snapshot, new uploads, and a re-snapshot of recent video statistics. From there `velocity`, `growth`, `breakouts` and `comments-mine` work off the snapshots you already own.

In practice: `velocity` shows which tracked videos are picking up views right now, `growth` reports subscriber and view deltas between dated snapshots, `breakouts` chains search filters into a matrix to surface fresh high-momentum videos, and `comments-mine` syncs comments into a full-text table with top-liked entries and keyword frequencies. `backfill` pulls a channel's whole upload history once, so later questions about it are answered offline. Separate `workspace` databases keep a production watchlist apart from a new niche sandbox.

Before the first command you need the binary: `npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install youtube --cli-only`, then verify with `youtube-pp-cli --version`. If `npx` fails, the fallback is a `go install`, which needs Go 1.26.6 or newer. API keys are stored under names in `auth keys` and switched by hand; `--rotate` fails over automatically when a key's daily quota runs out. The skill only reads — private channel analytics, uploads, edits and media downloads are out of scope.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-youtube -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pp-youtube/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pp-youtube/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-youtube -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pp-youtube/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-youtube -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pp-youtube/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mvanhorn/printing-press-library pp-youtube
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pp-youtube/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-youtube -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library --path cli-skills/pp-youtube
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pp-youtube/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-youtube -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library/tree/HEAD/cli-skills/pp-youtube/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- see which competitor videos are gaining views right now
- find fresh breakout videos in a niche within days of upload
- pull a channel's full upload history and query it offline
- mine comments for recurring audience questions and complaints
- keep a competitor watchlist separate from a new niche workspace

## Example prompts
- add @mkbhd to my watchlist and refresh every tracked channel
- which of my tracked videos are gaining views fastest right now
- find fresh breakouts for "berlin history" over the last 14 days

# YouTube — Printing Press CLI

## Prerequisites: Install the CLI

This skill drives the `youtube-pp-cli` binary. **You must verify the CLI is installed before invoking any command from this skill.** If it is missing, install it first:

1. Install via the Printing Press installer. It defaults binaries to `$HOME/.local/bin` on macOS/Linux and `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\PrintingPress\bin` on Windows:
   ```bash
   npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install youtube --cli-only
   ```
2. Verify: `youtube-pp-cli --version`
3. Ensure the reported install directory is on `$PATH` for the agent/runtime that will invoke this skill.
