## What it does

This skill operates the `movie-goat-pp-cli` executable. It pairs TMDb discovery filters with multi-source ratings from OMDb, pulling scores from IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, and Metacritic. Agents can look up titles by mood and runtime, run side-by-side comparisons via `versus`, or generate chronological director filmographies. When a query matches multiple releases like remakes, the CLI flags the collision on stderr and inside the `meta.ambiguous` JSON record.

A local SQLite database powers the personal watchlist. Commands such as `watchlist list` and `queue` check titles against regional streaming catalogs, suggesting the next movie to watch from saved interests. Every command exposed by this tool is strictly read-only: it exports and inspects records without placing orders, submitting reviews, or mutating remote state.

Your environment must have `movie-goat-pp-cli` present in `$PATH` before running any skill commands. If `OMDB_API_KEY` is not configured, rating queries still complete by falling back to TMDb alone.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-movie-goat -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pp-movie-goat/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pp-movie-goat/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-movie-goat -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pp-movie-goat/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-movie-goat -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pp-movie-goat/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mvanhorn/printing-press-library pp-movie-goat
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pp-movie-goat/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-movie-goat -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library --path cli-skills/pp-movie-goat
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pp-movie-goat/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-movie-goat -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- pick a movie for tonight based on runtime, mood, and streaming subscriptions
- fetch a combined rating card from TMDb, IMDb, Metacritic, and Rotten Tomatoes
- build a franchise marathon watch schedule with suggested breaks
- generate a chronological actor or director filmography with ratings
- filter a local SQLite watchlist by availability on active streaming services

## Example prompts
- What should I watch tonight on Netflix and Max under 120 minutes with a thriller mood?
- Compare movies 550 and 27205 across ratings, cast, and streaming availability
- Plan a marathon for The Avengers with breaks every 240 minutes

# Movie Goat — Printing Press CLI

## Prerequisites: Install the CLI

This skill drives the `movie-goat-pp-cli` binary. **You must verify the CLI is installed before invoking any command from this skill.** If it is missing, install it first:

1. Install via the Printing Press installer. It defaults binaries to `$HOME/.local/bin` on macOS/Linux and `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\PrintingPress\bin` on Windows:
   ```bash
   npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install movie-goat --cli-only
   ```
2. Verify: `movie-goat-pp-cli --version`
3. Ensure the reported install directory is on `$PATH` for the agent/runtime that will invoke this skill.

If the `npx` install fails (no Node, offline, etc.), fall back to a direct Go install (requires Go 1.26.6 or newer):

```bash
go install github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library/library/media-and-entertainment/movie-goat/cmd/movie-goat-pp-cli@latest
```

If `--version` reports "command not found" after install, the runtime cannot see the binary directory on `$PATH`. Do not proceed with skill commands until verification succeeds.
