## What it does

The skill wraps the `google-search-console-pp-cli` binary so an agent can answer SEO questions about a GSC property without opening the web UI. It covers top queries and pages for any window, period-over-period deltas, indexing and sitemap regressions, plus cannibalization and decaying-page audits. An offline SQLite cache lets it answer questions about data older than the API's 16-month window once a sync has run.

You need the binary installed first: `npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install google-search-console --cli-only`, then verify with `google-search-console-pp-cli --version`. If `npx` fails, there is a fallback via `go install`, which needs Go 1.26.6 or newer. The install directory has to be on `$PATH` for the runtime invoking the skill, or the commands simply won't resolve.

For one-off lookups on a fresh project the skill is the wrong tool — run `sync` first to populate the local corpus. Worth knowing before you expect an instant answer.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-google-search-console -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pp-google-search-console/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pp-google-search-console/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-google-search-console -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pp-google-search-console/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-google-search-console -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pp-google-search-console/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mvanhorn/printing-press-library pp-google-search-console
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pp-google-search-console/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-google-search-console -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library --path cli-skills/pp-google-search-console
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pp-google-search-console/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-google-search-console -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- compare the last 28 days against the prior period by query
- find page-2 queries with high impressions and low CTR
- figure out why traffic dropped on a specific property
- spot queries where several URLs compete for the same term
- build a content-refresh queue from declining click trends

## Example prompts
- show search console performance for example.com over the last 28 days
- find quick wins for sc-domain:example.com at positions 8-20
- run a cannibalization audit on this site with at least 50 impressions

# Google Search Console — Printing Press CLI

## Prerequisites: Install the CLI

This skill drives the `google-search-console-pp-cli` binary. **You must verify the CLI is installed before invoking any command from this skill.** If it is missing, install it first:

1. Install via the Printing Press installer. It defaults binaries to `$HOME/.local/bin` on macOS/Linux and `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\PrintingPress\bin` on Windows:
   ```bash
   npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install google-search-console --cli-only
   ```
2. Verify: `google-search-console-pp-cli --version`
3. Ensure the reported install directory is on `$PATH` for the agent/runtime that will invoke this skill.

If the `npx` install fails (no Node, offline, etc.), fall back to a direct Go install (requires Go 1.26.6 or newer):

```bash
go install github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library/library/marketing/google-search-console/cmd/google-search-console-pp-cli@latest
```

If `--version` reports "command not found" after install, the runtime cannot see the binary directory on `$PATH`. Do not proceed with skill commands until verification succeeds.
