## What it does

The skill operates through the `figma-pp-cli` binary. It converts raw Figma canvas structures into compact payloads that fit directly into an LLM context window. The CLI strips redundant node data, then bundles in-scope variables alongside Code Connect mappings for codegen tasks.

It also provides analytical commands outside the standard dashboard. You can inspect unresolved comments with `comments-audit`, identify unused components using `orphans`, compare token versions via `tokens diff`, or enforce design consistency in CI using `fingerprint`.

Before running any command, you must install the `figma-pp-cli` executable and add its folder to your `$PATH`. The recommended method is `npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install figma --cli-only`. Alternatively, direct Go compilation requires Go 1.26.6 or newer. Missing binaries break execution immediately.

## Requirements
- Works with: Figma

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-figma -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pp-figma/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pp-figma/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-figma -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pp-figma/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-figma -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pp-figma/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mvanhorn/printing-press-library pp-figma
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pp-figma/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-figma -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library --path cli-skills/pp-figma
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pp-figma/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-figma -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- extract compact Figma frame payloads for code generation without blowing context limits
- audit unresolved Figma comments across multiple team files
- detect orphan components and styles safe for design system deprecation
- diff design tokens across file releases with mode awareness
- verify design token drift in CI pipelines using deterministic fingerprints

## Example prompts
- Extract frame 1234-5678 from Figma file abc123 for codegen
- Find orphan components and variables in file 12345 over a 30-day window
- Diff Figma design tokens for file abc123 from v1.0.0 to HEAD

# Figma — Printing Press CLI

## Prerequisites: Install the CLI

This skill drives the `figma-pp-cli` binary. **You must verify the CLI is installed before invoking any command from this skill.** If it is missing, install it first:

1. Install via the Printing Press installer. It defaults binaries to `$HOME/.local/bin` on macOS/Linux and `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\PrintingPress\bin` on Windows:
   ```bash
   npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install figma --cli-only
   ```
2. Verify: `figma-pp-cli --version`
3. Ensure the reported install directory is on `$PATH` for the agent/runtime that will invoke this skill.

If the `npx` install fails (no Node, offline, etc.), fall back to a direct Go install (requires Go 1.26.6 or newer). This installs into `$GOPATH/bin` (default `$HOME/go/bin`), so add that directory to `$PATH` instead:

```bash
go install github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library/library/productivity/figma/cmd/figma-pp-cli@latest
```

If `--version` reports "command not found" after install, the runtime cannot see the binary directory on `$PATH`. Do not proceed with skill commands until verification succeeds.
