## What it does

The skill hands sports questions to `espn-pp-cli`: current scores, conference tables, a team's schedule, head-to-head history, box scores. It covers ten leagues, from NFL and NBA through MLB, NHL and NCAA to MLS, EPL and WNBA. A sync step copies a league into local SQLite, which gives you full-text search and read-only SQL over stored games.

Nothing is computed by the skill itself; the binary does the work. Install `espn-pp-cli` with `npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install espn --cli-only`. No Node, or offline? Use `go install`, which wants Go 1.26.6 or newer. No API key is involved. Verify with `espn-pp-cli --version` and keep the install directory on `$PATH` for the runtime running the agent, otherwise every command fails as not found.

\`today` and `trending` give a cross-league glance before you pick a sport. `watch` polls a single game every 30 seconds; `summary` returns the fattest per-game payload, with box score, leaders, scoring plays, odds and win probability. ESPN endpoints are polling-only, so genuine push updates are out. Already paying for Stats Perform or Sportradar? Those feeds are cleaner, and that is reason enough to check whether you need this.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-espn -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pp-espn/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pp-espn/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-espn -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pp-espn/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-espn -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pp-espn/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mvanhorn/printing-press-library pp-espn
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pp-espn/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-espn -a gemini-cli
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pp-espn/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-espn -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library/tree/HEAD/cli-skills/pp-espn/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- get tonight's scores without leaving the terminal
- pull division standings for a league
- compare two athletes' season stats side by side
- list a team's past and upcoming games
- follow one game live from the command line

## Example prompts
- What's the score of the Lakers game?
- Show me NFL standings and the Patriots schedule for this week
- Use espn-pp-cli to compare these two quarterbacks for the season

# ESPN — Printing Press CLI

## Prerequisites: Install the CLI

This skill drives the `espn-pp-cli` binary. **You must verify the CLI is installed before invoking any command from this skill.** If it is missing, install it first:

1. Install via the Printing Press installer. It defaults binaries to `$HOME/.local/bin` on macOS/Linux and `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\PrintingPress\bin` on Windows:
   ```bash
   npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install espn --cli-only
   ```
2. Verify: `espn-pp-cli --version`
3. Ensure the reported install directory is on `$PATH` for the agent/runtime that will invoke this skill.

If the `npx` install fails (no Node, offline, etc.), fall back to a direct Go install (requires Go 1.26.6 or newer):

```bash
go install github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library/library/media-and-entertainment/espn/cmd/espn-pp-cli@latest
```

If `--version` reports "command not found" after install, the runtime cannot see the binary directory on `$PATH`. Do not proceed with skill commands until verification succeeds.
