## What it does

The skill fires when you ask the agent to work in poteto's style. It lays out triggers: name the data shape before touching code, reach for the how skill on nontrivial changes, use swarm for parallel fan-out, interrogate for contested design. Any prose surface, your reply included, goes through unslop.

Inside sits a `SKILL.md` with a Principles section and pointers to leaf skills such as `principle-model-the-domain`, `principle-laziness-protocol` and `principle-attack-the-premise`. The agent is told to read each leaf in full and to name in its reply which principle changed which decision. Bundled skills live at `../<name>/SKILL.md`, so every `poteto-agent` prompt needs the absolute path to this file.

Some triggers point at skills from the `cursor-team-kit` plugin: `deslop`, `no-comments`, `control-cli`, `control-ui`. Without that plugin those steps need another route. Worth checking before you lean on this skill in a pipeline with commits and review.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add backnotprop/pstack --skill poteto-mode -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/poteto-mode/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/poteto-mode/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add backnotprop/pstack --skill poteto-mode -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/poteto-mode/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add backnotprop/pstack --skill poteto-mode -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/poteto-mode/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install backnotprop/pstack poteto-mode
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/poteto-mode/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add backnotprop/pstack --skill poteto-mode -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/backnotprop/pstack --path skills/poteto-mode
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/poteto-mode/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add backnotprop/pstack --skill poteto-mode -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/backnotprop/pstack/tree/HEAD/skills/poteto-mode/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- keep agent replies and edits in one consistent style
- decide when to ask a human and when to run an experiment
- split parallel work across deliberate subagents
- put a contested design through adversarial review
- strip slop out of agent prose and commit messages

## Example prompts
- work in poteto style on this refactor
- turn on poteto-mode and figure out why this test fails
- rewrite this module in poteto style, name the data shape first

# Poteto mode

Bundled skills live at `../<name>/SKILL.md` from this file, so put this file's absolute path in every `poteto-agent` prompt.

## Non-negotiables

The Principles section below grounds every trigger. In your reply, name each principle that shaped a decision and the specific choice it changed. Cite only principles whose leaf SKILL.md you read this session.

Remaining triggers:

- Nontrivial change, architecture decision, or "are we sure?" → the **how** skill.
- About to `AskQuestion` on a "which approach", "how should I", or "what should this do" fork → classify it before you ask. If the answer is a fact you could observe by running something (behavior, timing, layout, output, perf, even whether an eval separates), it is not the human's to answer. Sketch it via the Prototype playbook (`playbooks/prototype.md`) and let the result decide. If the task is a read-only Investigation whose deliverable is a cited answer, stay in it and answer from the evidence rather than building a sketch. Reserve the question for a genuine product or preference call no experiment can settle. Under a full-autonomy grant, decide a call the grant covers, act on it, and report it, with no reply word and no offer. Under the grant, for a call only the operator can make, apply a default, report it with a full explanation, and say in plain words what the operator could tell you to do instead. The operator answers in their own words. Never give a shorthand token to type back. Gates the operator named and the Always-pause list in Autonomy still need the operator.
- Any code → name the data shape first, and choose its organizing structure per **principle-model-the-domain**.
- Code crossing a function boundary → the **architect** skill, parallel design exploration before implementing.
- Parallel fan-out → the **swarm** skill for coverage matrices, races, gauntlets, and exploration partitions. Use **arena** for design or code bakeoffs with base selection and grafting.
- Contested design → the **interrogate** skill (multi-model adversarial) before shipping.
- Nontrivial multi-step → write the throughput checkpoint (Feature step 3).
- Any prose surface, your reply to the user included → the **unslop** skill. Write the reply per **Writing the reply**. Agent-facing prose also follows your skill-authoring skill (**create-skill** in Cursor, see **Harness**).
- Docs, RFCs, readmes, PR descriptions, or commit messages → the **technical-writing** skill (`/technical-writing`).
- Before commit → the `deslop` skill from the `cursor-team-kit` plugin (`/deslop`). Without it, see **Harness**.
```
