## What it does

The skill parses API codebases to assemble importable Postman collections. It extracts HTTP verbs, paths, route parameters, and headers across frameworks like Express, Next.js, Fastify, or Koa. Endpoints are grouped by resource, with environment variables preconfigured for the base URL.

Framework handling relies on dedicated scanners. For Express, Babel AST traversal with `@babel/parser` and `@babel/traverse` inspects calls like `app.get()` and `router.post()`. For Next.js App Router, file discovery through `glob` identifies `route.ts` files and rewrites parameter formats from `[id]` to `:id`.

Custom routing wrappers or dynamic route factories will be skipped by these scanners. Generating a complete collection requires standard route declarations.

## Requirements
- Works with: Postman

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill postman-collection-generator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/postman-collection-generator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/postman-collection-generator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill postman-collection-generator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/postman-collection-generator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill postman-collection-generator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/postman-collection-generator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install patricio0312rev/skills postman-collection-generator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/postman-collection-generator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill postman-collection-generator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills --path testing/postman-collection-generator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/postman-collection-generator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill postman-collection-generator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills/tree/HEAD/testing/postman-collection-generator/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn backend route files into importable Postman Collection v2.1 JSON
- convert Next.js dynamic path parameters from `[param]` to Postman `:param`
- map Express and Fastify endpoints without writing manual Postman requests
- group detected API routes by folder structure or resource names

## Example prompts
- Scan routes in `app/api` and export to Postman
- Generate a Postman collection JSON from our Express server file
- Create a Postman file for our Fastify endpoints with a base URL variable

# Postman Collection Generator

Generate importable Postman collections from your API codebase automatically.

## Core Workflow

1. **Scan routes**: Find all API route definitions in the codebase
2. **Extract metadata**: Methods, paths, params, request bodies, headers
3. **Organize endpoints**: Group by resource or folder structure
4. **Generate collection**: Create Postman Collection v2.1 JSON
5. **Add examples**: Include request/response examples
6. **Configure variables**: Environment variables for base URL, auth tokens

## Supported Frameworks

| Framework  | Route Pattern                             | Detection                      |
| ---------- | ----------------------------------------- | ------------------------------ |
| Express    | `app.get()`, `router.post()`              | Method chaining on app/router  |
| Next.js    | `app/api/**/route.ts`                     | File-based routing             |
| Fastify    | `fastify.get()`, route schema             | Method + schema decorators     |
| Hono       | `app.get()`, `app.post()`                 | Similar to Express             |
| NestJS     | `@Get()`, `@Post()` decorators            | Decorator-based                |
| Koa        | `router.get()`, `router.post()`           | Koa-router patterns            |

## Express Route Scanner

```typescript
// scripts/generate-postman.ts
import * as fs from "fs";
import * as path from "path";
import { parse } from "@babel/parser";
import traverse from "@babel/traverse";
interface RouteInfo {
  method: string;
