## What it does

The skill produces a positioning canvas document. It names the alternatives people actually weigh today, including a spreadsheet, a manual process and doing nothing. Then it lists attributes only your product has and chains them into attribute → benefit → value themes.

One beachhead segment gets picked for the first push. It is scored on serviceability, pain intensity and reachability. The canvas closes with a one-sentence statement of what makes the product different.

Scope is narrow on purpose. The skill does not write the message house, per-channel copy, persona profiles or SEO keywords. Attributes that cannot be verified are marked `[needs source]` and sent to the claims candidates list. You supply the evidence: product facts, win-loss reasons and interview notes.

## Install

npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill positioning-mapper -a claude-code
```
2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/positioning-mapper/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/positioning-mapper/
### Codex
1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill positioning-mapper -a codex
```
2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/positioning-mapper/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/
### Cursor
1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill positioning-mapper -a cursor
```
2. **Manually: put the files in place**
## When to use it
- name the alternatives buyers actually compare you against
- separate verifiable attributes from unproven claims
- pick one beachhead segment and justify the choice
- state the product's difference in a single sentence
- build attribute → benefit → value chains for later messaging
## Example prompts
- Map the positioning for our product. Users today solve this with a spreadsheet and a manual process. Candidate segments: help me choose.
- Build a positioning canvas from these win-loss notes and user interviews: [paste]. Pick the beachhead.
- Run the onlyness test on our current one-liner: "[your line]" — does it survive named alternatives?
