# plur-memory

A persistent memory skill for AI agents. It stores corrections, preferences and working patterns as engrams so the agent keeps them between sessions.

## What it does

PLUR Memory keeps what your agent picks up as engrams. Ones that get used grow stronger; ones that stop mattering fade. The MCP server drives it: open a session with `plur_session_start`, close it with `plur_session_end` and a short summary. The lean profile exposes `plur_learn`, `plur_recall`, `plur_feedback`, `plur_forget`, `plur_status` and `plur_doctor` directly, while rarer calls go through `plur_admin` as actions.

Whether engrams get injected into context on their own depends on which editor adapter you installed. An MCP connection by itself brings no hooks, so early on you save things explicitly with `plur_learn`. Expect an empty injection right after install — there are no engrams yet. The first five sessions are the bootstrap period, and that is where the real work of learning happens.

One operation, `plur_extract_meta`, runs an extraction pipeline against a configured LLM endpoint and can send selected memory there. Point it only at a destination you are authorised to use. Trivial facts, file paths and function names are poor candidates for storage: they change, and the codebase already holds them.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add plur-ai/plur --skill plur-memory -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/plur-memory/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/plur-memory/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add plur-ai/plur --skill plur-memory -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/plur-memory/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add plur-ai/plur --skill plur-memory -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/plur-memory/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install plur-ai/plur plur-memory
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/plur-memory/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add plur-ai/plur --skill plur-memory -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/plur-ai/plur --path skills/plur-memory
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/plur-memory/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add plur-ai/plur --skill plur-memory -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/plur-ai/plur/tree/HEAD/skills/plur-memory/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- keep a user correction so the agent stops repeating the mistake
- record a stated preference such as TypeScript over JavaScript
- load accumulated project conventions at the start of a new session
- flag an injected engram as stale and drop it from recall
- carry a principle learned in one domain over to another

## Example prompts
- Start a memory session and save that this codebase uses the repository pattern for data access
- I corrected you: the API returns snake_case, not camelCase — record that with `plur_learn`
- End the memory session with a short summary of what we did

# PLUR Memory

Persistent memory for AI agents. Corrections, preferences, and patterns are stored as **engrams** that strengthen with use and decay when irrelevant. The system gets smarter the longer you use it.

## When to Use

Use PLUR to recall relevant knowledge, learn durable corrections and close a memory session. Automatic injection depends on the installed editor adapter; an MCP connection alone does not install hooks.

## Discover the MCP tools

The default **lean** profile exposes core tools directly, including `plur_session_start`, `plur_session_end`, `plur_learn`, `plur_recall`, `plur_feedback`, `plur_forget`, `plur_status` and `plur_doctor`. Less-common operations are actions on `plur_admin`:

```json
{ "action": "help" }
```

Send that object to `plur_admin` to get current action names and argument schemas. For example, call `plur_admin` with `{ "action": "plur_inject", "args": { "task": "the current task" } }`. Destructive tools stay direct and cannot be dispatched through `plur_admin`. With `PLUR_TOOL_PROFILE=full`, operations are exposed by their own names instead.

Native integrations such as Hermes have their own tool surface. Use the names and schemas the current client exposes; the [Hermes skill](https://github.com/plur-ai/plur/blob/main/packages/hermes/plur_hermes/skills/plur-memory.SKILL.md) describes its native plugin.

## Memory Lifecycle

- Start an MCP memory session with `plur_session_start`; keep its session ID for later calls.
- With an editor adapter installed, relevant engrams are injected automatically.
- End the session with `plur_session_end` and a concise summary.
- When you discover something worth remembering → call `plur_learn` with a clear statement
- When corrected by the user → call `plur_learn` immediately with the correction
- When an injected engram was helpful → call `plur_feedback` with signal "positive"
- When an injected engram was wrong or stale → call `plur_feedback` with signal "negative"
- When a memory is no longer true → call `plur_forget` with the engram ID

## The Learning Protocol

End your responses with a learning section when you discover reusable insights:

```
---
🧠 I learned:
- Insight one (min 10 characters)
- Insight two
```
