## What it does

The skill guides design work through a strict fidelity ladder: content-first, wireframes, low-fidelity, high-fidelity, and production code. Skipping levels is barred. At each tier, the agent identifies the lowest level that answers the question, pairing the draft artifact with explicit validation criteria instead of vague promises to test later.

When outlining user flows, the skill documents decision points, failure paths, and edge conditions such as empty views or slow loads. For high-fidelity screens and code, it pulls design tokens, components, and accessibility baselines directly from the local workspace files.

The skill stops immediately if the surrounding kit is missing. Adding only the skill folder triggers a `KIT_MISSING` halt until you run `npx ux-ui-agent-skills init` to populate tokens and workflows. The frontmatter flag `disable-model-invocation: true` prevents the agent from triggering this workflow autonomously, so you must invoke it directly.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add plugin87/ux-ui-agent-skills --skill prototype -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/prototype/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/prototype/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add plugin87/ux-ui-agent-skills --skill prototype -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/prototype/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add plugin87/ux-ui-agent-skills --skill prototype -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/prototype/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install plugin87/ux-ui-agent-skills prototype
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/prototype/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add plugin87/ux-ui-agent-skills --skill prototype -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/plugin87/ux-ui-agent-skills --path .claude/skills/prototype
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/prototype/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add plugin87/ux-ui-agent-skills --skill prototype -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/plugin87/ux-ui-agent-skills/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/prototype/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- map user journeys with explicit decision forks and error paths
- select the lowest interface fidelity needed to test an assumption
- draft usability testing scripts following the five-user rule
- validate high-fidelity UI code against token and accessibility standards

## Example prompts
- Map out the checkout flow with empty states, validation errors, and timeout handling
- Create a content-first wireframe for account security settings and define success criteria
- Write a five-user usability test script for the team invitation flow

> **Step 0: is the kit here?** This skill reads files from the kit. Check once:
> `ls ${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../../../tokens >/dev/null 2>&1 && echo KIT_OK || echo KIT_MISSING`
> On `KIT_MISSING` only the skill folders were installed, which is what

Guide work through the right fidelity level with validation.

## Steps
1. Read `${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../../../workflows/prototyping.md` (5-level fidelity ladder, journey mapping template, usability-testing script, sample data).
2. Identify the current need and pick the **lowest** fidelity that answers it. Never skip levels:
   - Content-first (info needs) → Wireframe (layout/nav) → Low-fi (task completion) → High-fi (visual/a11y) → Code (feasibility/perf).
3. For flows: produce a user-journey map with decision points, error paths, and edge cases.
4. For validation: define the usability test (tasks, success criteria, 5-user rule) using the script.
5. High-fi/code steps pull tokens (`${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../../../tokens/*`), components (`${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../../../components/*`), taste (`${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../../../taste/*`), and a11y (`${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../../../accessibility/*`).

## Output
The artifact at the chosen fidelity + an explicit "what we validate next" plan.

## Verification (before declaring done)
- The fidelity matches the question being answered; no level skipped.
- Flows include decision points, **error paths, and edge cases** (empty/loading/overflow), not just the happy path.
- A concrete validation step is named (tasks + success criteria), not "test later".
- High-fi/code artifacts pass the same token + a11y bar as `design-code` (no hardcoded values, contrast, states).
