# platform-sharing-rules-generate

A skill for Salesforce record-level access: creates, edits and deletes Sharing Rules metadata through sf. Useful when sharing rules are managed from the editor, not the UI.

## What it does

The skill covers `sharingCriteriaRules`, `sharingOwnerRules` and `sharingGuestRules` — criteria-based, owner-based and guest user rules for Experience Sites. It retrieves rules from an org, appends new ones to an existing file, changes criteria or access levels, and removes rules. Out of scope: org-wide defaults, Experience Site creation, permission sets and profiles, and territory-based sharing.

Work runs in phases. The skill locates `sfdx-project.json` and the `sharingRules/` package directory, then always pulls the current rules from the org with `sf project retrieve start --metadata "SharingRules:<ObjectName>" --target-org <org>`. A stale local file is a real hazard here: edits against it can recreate rules already deleted in the org or overwrite someone else's changes. After that it picks the operation and rule type and reads the schema in `references/rule-types.md`.

Some edits are blocked on purpose. `<sharedTo>` and `<sharedFrom>` cannot be modified in place — to change the sharing target, delete the rule and create a new one. Owner rules allow only `<accessLevel>` to change. Account rules require an `accountSettings` element, and guest rules need `<guestUser>` with the site's community nickname; `<role>` and `<group>` will not work there. You need `sf` 2.0.0 or newer and API version 60.0 or higher.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-sharing-rules-generate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/platform-sharing-rules-generate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/platform-sharing-rules-generate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-sharing-rules-generate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/platform-sharing-rules-generate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-sharing-rules-generate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/platform-sharing-rules-generate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills platform-sharing-rules-generate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/platform-sharing-rules-generate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-sharing-rules-generate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/platform-sharing-rules-generate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/platform-sharing-rules-generate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-sharing-rules-generate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/platform-sharing-rules-generate/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- share records by a field condition without touching profiles
- open a subset of records to roles and groups with an owner rule
- set up access for guest users on an Experience Site
- list which sharing rules are already active in an org
- strip an obsolete rule out of an object's metadata

## Example prompts
- Show me all sharing rules for the Account object in my org
- Create a criteria-based rule: Property__c records where Status__c = 'Active' are readable by the Sales role
- Delete the HighValueAccounts rule from Account metadata

# Sharing Rules Generator

Get, create, edit, and delete Salesforce Sharing Rules metadata to control record-level access beyond org-wide defaults. Supports criteria-based rules, role/group-based owner rules, and guest user rules for Experience Sites.

## Scope

- **In scope**: Creating, editing, deleting, and retrieving (getting) `sharingCriteriaRules`, `sharingOwnerRules`, and `sharingGuestRules` metadata; retrieving existing sharing rules from an org using the Metadata API Retrieve pattern; appending new rules to existing files; modifying rule criteria or access levels; removing rules from metadata files; configuring rules for Guest and Portal profiles.
- **Out of scope**: Changing org-wide defaults (OWD/sharing model), creating Experience Sites, configuring permission sets or profiles (use `platform-permission-set-generate`), territory-based sharing rules.

---

## Clarifying Questions

Before proceeding, confirm with the user if not already clear:

### For Get operations:
- Which object's sharing rules should be retrieved? (standard or custom object API name, or all objects)
- Which target org should the rules be retrieved from? (org alias or default)

### For Create operations:
```
The third-party file has ended. Everything between the dcf39d3369c26220 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
