## What it does

The skill builds `.object-meta.xml` files and checks them against the required elements: `<label>`, `<pluralLabel>`, `<sharingModel>`, `<deploymentStatus>`, `<nameField>`, `<visibility>`. The API name lives in the filename, not in a tag. Any object holding a Master-Detail field must use `ControlledByParent` for `<sharingModel>`; `ReadWrite` there breaks the deploy. Add such a field to an existing child object and that object's sharing model needs the same fix.

The name field follows the use case: `Text` for things people name, `AutoNumber` for transactions and tickets, where `<displayFormat>` and `<startingNumber>` come along. Descriptions are treated as mandatory. When one already exists, the skill shows a proposal and waits for a reply before writing, because a file alone won't tell you whether an admin wrote that text by hand. The same refresh applies after a validation rule change, not just a field change.

Apex, Flows, LWC, Permission Sets, Custom Metadata Types and standard objects are out of scope. For authoritative Metadata API type and enum details it points to the companion skill `platform-metadata-api-context-get`. Minimum API version is 60.0.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-custom-object-generate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/platform-custom-object-generate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/platform-custom-object-generate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-custom-object-generate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/platform-custom-object-generate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-custom-object-generate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/platform-custom-object-generate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills platform-custom-object-generate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/platform-custom-object-generate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-custom-object-generate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/platform-custom-object-generate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/platform-custom-object-generate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-custom-object-generate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/platform-custom-object-generate/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- create a custom object with valid metadata XML
- pick the right sharingModel for a Master-Detail field
- fix a deploy error from ReadWrite on a child object
- refresh the object description after a field or validation rule edit
- set up an AutoNumber name field with format and starting number

## Example prompts
- create a custom object Vehicle with a Text name field
- add a Master-Detail field to Order Line Item and update its sharingModel
- delete a validation rule on Invoice and refresh the object description

## When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when you need to:
- Create new custom objects
- Generate custom object metadata XML
- Configure object sharing and security settings
- Set up object features and capabilities
- Troubleshoot deployment errors related to custom objects
- **Add, update, or delete a field OR a validation rule on an existing object** — any of these may make the object's `<description>` stale, so you must refresh it (propose + confirm). This applies equally to validation-rule changes, not just fields. See Section 3.B.

For authoritative Metadata API type, field, and enum details beyond this skill, use the `platform-metadata-api-context-get` skill.

## Specification

## 1. Overview and Purpose

This document defines the mandatory constraints for generating CustomObject metadata XML (`.object-meta.xml` file). The agent must verify these constraints before outputting XML to prevent Metadata API deployment errors.

**File extension:** `.object-meta.xml`

> **Description freshness — applies to EVERY object change, fields AND validation rules:** Whenever you add, update, or delete a field **or a validation rule** on an object, the `<description>` may now be stale. Before finishing, refresh it per **Section 3.B** (propose, confirm with the user, write). A validation-rule change counts exactly like a field change — the change is **not** done until the description has been reconciled. This is easy to forget on validation-rule edits/deletes — don't.
