# platform-custom-lightning-type-generate

Builds Custom Lightning Types as JSON Schema — the input and output shapes for Einstein Agent actions. Useful when the validator keeps rejecting your schema.

## What it does

Custom Lightning Types describe structured inputs and outputs on the Lightning Platform, Einstein Agent actions included, and drive editor and renderer behaviour. The skill walks from picking an approach to a finished `schema.json`. Three routes: point at an Apex class, use standard Lightning primitives, or reference another CLT with `"lightning:type": "c__<CLTName>"`.

The CLT metaschema is where most work dies. It rejects a `"$schema"` field outright, even a valid JSON Schema declaration. A root object needs `"type": "object"`, `"title"`, `"lightning:type": "lightning__objectType"` and `"unevaluatedProperties": false`. The `items` keyword is treated as disallowed by default, and nested arrays are the most common failure: they take `"type": "array"` and nothing else. Nested objects must not carry `lightning__objectType`.

Apex-class types stay minimal — `title`, optionally `description`, and a `lightning:type` of `@apexClassType/...`. Attribute mappings in the root override won't work there, because there is no `properties` block for `{!$attrs.<name>}` to bind against. The skill tells you to drop the `attributes` key from `componentOverrides` and say why in the response. The full list of primitive identifiers and their constraints sits in `assets/primitive-types-and-constraints.md` inside the skill directory.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-custom-lightning-type-generate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/platform-custom-lightning-type-generate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/platform-custom-lightning-type-generate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-custom-lightning-type-generate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/platform-custom-lightning-type-generate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-custom-lightning-type-generate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/platform-custom-lightning-type-generate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills platform-custom-lightning-type-generate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/platform-custom-lightning-type-generate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-custom-lightning-type-generate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/platform-custom-lightning-type-generate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/platform-custom-lightning-type-generate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-custom-lightning-type-generate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- write a JSON Schema for an Einstein Agent action's inputs and outputs
- reference a separately deployed CLT for a nested object
- fix a schema the validator rejects over a stray keyword
- describe a data shape that already exists as an Apex class
- set up a custom editor or renderer for a CLT

## Example prompts
- Create a Custom Lightning Type for an agent action with required fields flightId and departureDate
- Build a CLT that references a nested type c__AddressType
- Figure out why my schema.json fails CLT validation

## When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when you need to:
- Create Custom Lightning Types (CLTs) for structured inputs/outputs
- Generate JSON Schema-based type definitions for Lightning Platform
- Configure CLTs for Einstein Agent actions
- Set up editor and renderer configurations for custom UI
- Troubleshoot deployment errors related to Custom Lightning Types

## Specification

# CustomLightningType Metadata Specification

## Overview & Purpose
Custom Lightning Types (CLTs) are JSON Schema-based type definitions used by the Lightning Platform (including Einstein Agent actions) to describe structured inputs/outputs and drive editor/renderer experiences.

## Configuration
- **Choose referenced CLT pattern for nested objects** - When you need a **reusable** or **separately deployed** nested type, create a CLT for that shape and reference it with `"lightning:type": "c__<CLTName>"`. That string is the referenced type’s **`lightning:type` value / FQN / registered identifier** — not the JSON Schema `title`.
