# platform-apex-generate

Generates Apex classes and triggers, then runs the code analyzer and org tests. Useful when a Salesforce codebase keeps growing.

## What it does

The skill activates whenever a request mentions Apex, `.cls` or triggers. It first reads your project conventions: how service, selector and domain layers are arranged, and whether Trigger Actions Framework is already in use. Then it picks the smallest matching template from `assets/` and writes the class along with its `.cls-meta.xml` and ApexDoc comments.

Work runs in phases. Authoring comes first, validation second: the code analyzer through MCP `run_code_analyzer` (fallback `sf code-analyzer run`), then tests via `sf apex run test`. A report missing either the Analyzer or Testing line counts as incomplete, so the skill has to invoke the tools before summarizing anything. It does not write tests itself — that job belongs to the separate `platform-apex-test-generate` skill, and no test file gets created without it.

Guardrails are baked into generation. SOQL and DML stay outside loops, every class needs a sharing keyword, hardcoded IDs are out, and `@future` is banned in favour of Queueable with `System.Finalizer`. Minimum API version is 66.0, and the `sf` CLI must be 2.0.0 or newer. If the analyzer or a test org is unreachable, the skill records that in the report and still produces the code — you just verify it by hand.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-apex-generate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/platform-apex-generate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/platform-apex-generate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-apex-generate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/platform-apex-generate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-apex-generate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/platform-apex-generate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills platform-apex-generate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/platform-apex-generate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-apex-generate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/platform-apex-generate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/platform-apex-generate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill platform-apex-generate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/platform-apex-generate/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- generate an Apex class of a given type with ApexDoc and metadata
- refactor an existing `.cls` to process collections in bulk
- design a trigger with no SOQL or DML inside loops
- run the analyzer and tests on finished Apex before deploying
- swap `@future` methods for Queueable with a finalizer

## Example prompts
- Create a batch class that recalculates contact statuses
- Refactor this `.cls`: move SOQL out of the loop and add `with sharing`
- Write an invocable method I can call from a Flow

# Generating Apex

Use this skill for production-grade Apex: new classes, selectors, services, async jobs,
invocable methods, and triggers; and for evidence-based review of existing `.cls` OR `.trigger`.

## Required Inputs

Gather or infer before authoring:

- Class type (service, selector, domain, batch, queueable, schedulable, invocable, trigger, trigger action, DTO, utility, interface, abstract, exception, REST resource)
- Target object(s) and business goal
- Class name (derive using the naming table below)
- Net-new vs refactor/fix; any org/API constraints
- Deployment targets (default to runSpecifiedTests and use generated tests where applicable)

Defaults unless specified:
- Sharing: `with sharing` (see sharing rules per type below)
- Access: `public` (use `global` only when required by managed packages or `@RestResource`)
- API version: `66.0` (minimum version)
- ApexDoc comments: yes

If the user provides a clear, complete request, generate immediately without unnecessary back-and-forth.

## Workflow

All steps are sequential. Do not skip, merge, or reorder. If blocked, stop and ask for missing context. If not applicable, mark `N/A` with a one-line justification in the report.

### Phase 1 — Author

1. **Discover project conventions**
   - Service-Selector-Domain layering, logging utilities
   - Existing classes/triggers and current trigger framework or handler pattern
   - Whether Trigger Actions Framework (TAF) is already in use
