## What it does

This skill is kept in the `anthropics/claude-for-legal` repository strictly as a migration redirect after the v2 rebuild. It has `user-invocable: false` set in its frontmatter, so the agent will not trigger it directly as a standalone action.

The original workflow was split into two focused skills. Routine correspondence, including appointment confirmations and document requests, moved to `skills/client-letter/` via `/client-letter [type]`. Substantive updates for clients are handled by `/status client` from `skills/status/`.

Both replacement skills enforce plain-language standards from `CLAUDE.md`, removing jargon and controlling reading levels. Keeping this redirect in your project is useful only for backward compatibility with older configurations.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill plain-language-letters -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/plain-language-letters/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/plain-language-letters/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill plain-language-letters -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/plain-language-letters/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill plain-language-letters -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/plain-language-letters/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anthropics/claude-for-legal plain-language-letters
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/plain-language-letters/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill plain-language-letters -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal --path legal-clinic/skills/plain-language-letters
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/plain-language-letters/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill plain-language-letters -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- navigate the skill structure after the v2 rebuild
- find the replacement command for routine client correspondence
- switch to `/status client` for substantive case updates
- keep backward compatibility for legacy workflows

## Example prompts
- /client-letter appointment
- /status client
- Draft a routine update using /client-letter

# [DEPRECATED] Plain-Language Letters → see `/client-letter` and `/status client`

This skill was split during the v2 rebuild:

- **Routine correspondence** (appointment confirms, document requests, brief
  "we filed it" updates) → `skills/client-letter/` — use `/client-letter [type]`

- **Substantive client status updates** → `skills/status/` in client-facing
  mode — use `/status client`

Both apply the plain-language standards (reading level, no jargon) from CLAUDE.md.

See the respective SKILL.md files for full workflows.

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the 569a37b78e1d77e5 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
