# pixijs-scene-dom-container

Teaches the agent how to overlay HTML elements on a PixiJS v8 canvas with DOMContainer and DOMPipe. Useful for native inputs, iframes or video that must follow a display object.

## What it does

The skill covers `DOMContainer`, which places an HTML element above the PixiJS canvas and rewrites its CSS transform from the scene graph every frame. Position, scale, rotation and inherited alpha land in the element's `transform` and `style.opacity`, so it tracks a sprite without manual syncing. Constructor options `element` and `anchor` are documented, along with the shared `app.domContainerRoot` and cleanup via `destroy()`.

The default browser bundle registers `DOMPipe` for you. You only need the explicit `import 'pixi.js/dom'` when you set `skipExtensionImports: true` or run a non-browser bundle — without it the class still imports, but the renderer has no pipe to process it. That is the usual failure point in custom builds.

\`DOMContainer` is marked EXPERIMENTAL in PixiJS v8, so the API may shift between minor releases. It extends `ViewContainer` and stays a leaf: no PixiJS children inside it, put your HTML in the element itself. Web Workers are out, since there is no DOM to overlay. The skill assumes you already know `pixijs-scene-core-concepts`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pixijs/pixijs-skills --skill pixijs-scene-dom-container -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pixijs-scene-dom-container/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pixijs-scene-dom-container/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pixijs/pixijs-skills --skill pixijs-scene-dom-container -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pixijs-scene-dom-container/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pixijs/pixijs-skills --skill pixijs-scene-dom-container -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pixijs-scene-dom-container/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install pixijs/pixijs-skills pixijs-scene-dom-container
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pixijs-scene-dom-container/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pixijs/pixijs-skills --skill pixijs-scene-dom-container -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/pixijs/pixijs-skills --path skills/pixijs-scene-dom-container
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pixijs-scene-dom-container/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pixijs/pixijs-skills --skill pixijs-scene-dom-container -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- place a text input over the canvas without position drift
- attach an iframe or video to a display object
- build a decorative HTML overlay that still lets clicks reach the canvas
- debug why DOMContainer renders nothing in a custom build
- detach an element from the scene and hand it back to the DOM

## Example prompts
- Add a DOMContainer with an input over the PixiJS canvas and center it with anchor 0.5
- Why is my DOMContainer not rendering with skipExtensionImports: true?
- Build an HTML score panel over the scene and set pointer-events to none on it

`DOMContainer` positions an HTML element over the PixiJS canvas and drives its CSS transform from the scene graph. Use it for native inputs, iframes, videos, or rich HTML that needs to follow a display object's position. The default `pixi.js` browser bundle registers the `DOMPipe` automatically; custom builds add a side-effect `import 'pixi.js/dom'`.

> `DOMContainer` is marked EXPERIMENTAL in PixiJS v8. The API may change between minor releases.

Assumes familiarity with `pixijs-scene-core-concepts`. `DOMContainer` extends `ViewContainer`, so it's a leaf: do not nest PixiJS children inside it. Nest DOM content inside the HTML element itself, or wrap multiple `DOMContainer` instances in a `Container`. Not available in Web Workers; a worker has no DOM to overlay.

## Quick Start

```ts
import "pixi.js/dom";
const input = document.createElement("input");
input.type = "text";
input.placeholder = "Enter name...";
const dom = new DOMContainer({
  element: input,
  anchor: 0.5,
});
dom.position.set(app.screen.width / 2, app.screen.height / 2);
app.stage.addChild(dom);
```

## Constructor options

All `Container` options (`position`, `scale`, `tint`, `label`, `filters`, `zIndex`, etc.) are also valid here — see `skills/pixijs-scene-core-concepts/references/constructor-options.md`.

Leaf-specific options added by `DOMContainerOptions`:

| Option    | Type                  | Default                         | Description                                                                                                                                                                    |
