## What it does

This skill turns the agent into a business model strategist. You feed it a product or feature description, the target segment, current willingness to pay, how competitors charge and what the company wants — revenue growth, user growth or profitability. What comes back is several distinct monetization models, not variations on one.

Each strategy follows the same outline: how the mechanics work and who pays, why it fits your customer, unit economics with estimated CAC and LTV, risks, and how it holds up against competitors. Every strategy also gets a low-cost validation experiment — survey, landing page, pilot, freemium or waitlist — with a success metric and a timeline.

The skill ships with worked examples: freemium, subscription, usage-based pricing, per-seat pricing, one-time purchase, marketplace fees, ads and sponsorship. On freemium it states plainly that conversion typically lands at 1–5%, so the paid features have to be obvious. It also advises testing pricing early rather than waiting for a finished product, and notes that prices can change while customer relationships are harder to rebuild.

- File: `~/.claude/skills/monetization-strategy/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/monetization-strategy/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add phuryn/pm-skills --skill monetization-strategy -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/monetization-strategy/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add phuryn/pm-skills --skill monetization-strategy -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/monetization-strategy/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install phuryn/pm-skills monetization-strategy
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**

npx skills add phuryn/pm-skills --skill monetization-strategy -a opencode
```
### Claude.ai
## When to use it
- pick a monetization model for a new product
- gauge whether an audience will pay for a feature
- compare freemium, subscription and usage-based pricing
- estimate CAC and LTV before launch
- design a cheap test of willingness to pay
## Example prompts
- Brainstorm 4 monetization models for our API service and estimate unit economics for each
- We're weighing subscription against usage-based pricing — lay out both and the risks
- Design an experiment that tests whether customers will pay for the premium tier
