## What it does

This skill provides a structured workflow for manual and semi-automated security testing based on the OWASP Web Security Testing Guide (WSTG). It relies on Burp Suite Professional as the primary interception proxy, supported by tools like `ffuf` and `sqlmap`. The workflow breaks the assessment into reconnaissance, authentication testing, authorization checks, input validation, and session management.

Testing covers practical vulnerability scenarios. For access controls, it details horizontal privilege escalation (IDOR) with the Autorize extension, vertical role jumps, and HTTP method tampering. Input validation covers SQL injection, XSS across multiple contexts, SSRF against metadata endpoints, OS command execution, XXE, and server-side template injection. Endpoint mapping uses SecLists wordlists alongside client-side scripts via `LinkFinder.py`.

Running these tests without a signed Statement of Work is unacceptable, and missing role accounts makes access testing pointless. The skill strictly bans testing production environments during peak traffic without approval, as well as any denial-of-service attempts.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill performing-web-application-penetration-test -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/performing-web-application-penetration-test/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/performing-web-application-penetration-test/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill performing-web-application-penetration-test -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/performing-web-application-penetration-test/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill performing-web-application-penetration-test -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/performing-web-application-penetration-test/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills performing-web-application-penetration-test
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/performing-web-application-penetration-test/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill performing-web-application-penetration-test -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --path skills/performing-web-application-penetration-test
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/performing-web-application-penetration-test/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill performing-web-application-penetration-test -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills/tree/HEAD/skills/performing-web-application-penetration-test/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- map attack surfaces and hidden endpoints using Burp Suite and `ffuf`
- verify rate limiting and MFA bypass flaws during authentication testing
- find IDOR and vertical privilege escalation with the Autorize extension
- probe input fields for SQLi, XSS, SSRF, and command injection

## Example prompts
- Perform a web application penetration test following the OWASP WSTG checklist for staging.
- Help me test endpoints for IDOR using Burp Suite and credentials for two different user roles.
- Check authentication mechanisms and password reset flows for bypass vulnerabilities.

# Performing Web Application Penetration Test

## When to Use

- Testing web applications before production deployment to identify exploitable vulnerabilities
- Conducting compliance-driven security assessments (PCI-DSS requirement 6.6, SOC 2 Type II)
- Validating remediation of previously identified web application vulnerabilities during retesting
- Assessing third-party web applications before integration into the organization's environment
- Evaluating custom-developed web applications where automated scanning alone is insufficient

**Do not use** against web applications without written authorization, against production systems during peak traffic hours without explicit approval, or for denial-of-service testing of web infrastructure.

## Prerequisites

- Signed statement of work (SoW) defining the target application URLs, environments (staging/production), and testing boundaries
