## What it does

The skill fires only on clear commit intent: you say “commit”, “let’s commit this”, “open a PR”, or type `/commit`. A vague “we’re done” won’t trigger it; it asks for confirmation first. Two gates run before any branching. `python3 scripts/quality_score.py` scores changed `.qmd`, `.tex` and `.R` files, and `./scripts/backtest.sh` runs the full consistency suite.

A score under 80 stops the run until you fix things or say “commit anyway”. A red backtest blocks the commit either way. Touch a manuscript that has a passport in `quality_reports/passports/` and the skill reads it, halting on a load-bearing claim marked `FAIL` or `STALE` and pointing you to `/audit-reproducibility`. From there it creates a branch rather than committing to `main`, adds files by name instead of `git add -A`, and writes a message whose subject describes the new behavior rather than narrating the session.

Pushing and opening a pull request happen only with `--pr` or on your request. Merging is never a step: “ship it” and “done” don’t count as a merge instruction. Once `./scripts/install-hooks.sh` has run, `.githooks/pre-commit` reapplies the 80 threshold to staged files. An approved override passes through as `SKIP_QUALITY_GATE=1`, with the reason recorded in the message. `git commit --no-verify` stays out of it.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pedrohcgs/claude-code-my-workflow --skill commit -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/commit/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/commit/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pedrohcgs/claude-code-my-workflow --skill commit -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/commit/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pedrohcgs/claude-code-my-workflow --skill commit -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/commit/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install pedrohcgs/claude-code-my-workflow commit
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/commit/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pedrohcgs/claude-code-my-workflow --skill commit -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/pedrohcgs/claude-code-my-workflow --path .claude/skills/commit
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/commit/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pedrohcgs/claude-code-my-workflow --skill commit -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/pedrohcgs/claude-code-my-workflow/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/commit/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- score changed files before committing them
- catch count drift and broken links before pushing
- verify a touched manuscript has no failing claim
- branch off main instead of committing to it
- write a subject that names the new behavior

## Example prompts
- Commit this, name the branch fix-parity-gate
- /commit fixed the hash check in the fixtures
- Commit and open a pull request with `--pr`

# Commit

Verify the gates, then commit. **A commit is not a pull request, and a pull request is not a merge.**
This skill stops after the commit. It pushes and opens a pull request only with `--pr` or when the
user asks, and it **never merges** — a merge happens only when the user explicitly says to merge
that pull request (see "Merging" below). Reviewers such as Codex and Copilot comment after a pull
request opens; merging before they report skips their review.

## Steps

### Step 0: Quality Gate (Pre-Commit)

**Run before branching.** For every changed `.qmd`, `.tex`, or `.R` file that has quality rubrics, run:

```bash
python3 scripts/quality_score.py <changed-file-paths>
```

- If any file scores below **80**, halt and report the findings. The user must either fix the issues or explicitly override with phrases like *"commit anyway"* or *"skip quality gate"*. Once `./scripts/install-hooks.sh` has been run, `.githooks/pre-commit` re-runs the same ≥80 gate on the staged `.qmd`/`.tex`/`.R` files, so carry an approved override into Step 4 as `SKIP_QUALITY_GATE=1 git commit ...` and record the override reason in the commit message. That variable skips only the quality score; the backtest still runs. Never fall back to `git commit --no-verify`.
- If all files score 80+, continue.

Spawn the **verifier** agent (via the `Agent` tool with `subagent_type=verifier`) to run compilation/render checks on the changed files. Report pass/fail before committing.

### Step 0b: Consistency Gate (Pre-Commit)
