## What it does

skill-creator walks you through building a new skill from scratch. It starts with the purpose and trigger phrases, then the category, then a `SKILL.md` with frontmatter, reference files and code samples, and finishes with a checklist to verify the output.

Inside you get a category table with paths (`foundation/`, `frontend/`, `backend/`, `ai-engineering/`, `architecture/`, `ci-cd/`, `database-management/`, `testing/`, `security/`, `performance/`), a `SKILL.md` template and frontmatter rules. The skill name must be kebab-case and match the folder name. Optional `templates.md`, `conventions.md` and `patterns.md` go into a `references/` subfolder.

The skill is tied to one repo layout: the categories and paths come from `patricio0312rev/skills`. On your own folder structure you will have to rewrite that table, or the skill will drop files in the wrong place.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill skill-creator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/skill-creator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/skill-creator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill skill-creator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/skill-creator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill skill-creator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/skill-creator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install patricio0312rev/skills skill-creator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/skill-creator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill skill-creator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills --path foundation/skill-creator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/skill-creator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill skill-creator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills/tree/HEAD/foundation/skill-creator/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- scaffold a new skill from the repo template
- pick a category folder for a skill
- write frontmatter with trigger phrases
- add reference files to a skill
- verify a finished skill against a checklist

## Example prompts
- create a skill for API rate limiting
- add a new skill under the backend category
- generate a skill with code examples and a checklist
