# patent-review

This skill runs an external patent-examiner review of claims, specifications, and prior art. Use it to find rejection risks before revising an application.

## What it does

The skill gathers the application context from `patent/CLAIMS.md`, the files under `patent/specification/`, `patent/figures/numeral_index.md`, `patent/PRIOR_ART_REPORT.md`, and `patent/INVENTION_DISCLOSURE.md`. An external reviewer working as a patent examiner then checks claim clarity, written-description support, enablement, novelty, obviousness, and claim scope.

The workflow has two review rounds. Round one produces an office-action-style assessment with rejection grounds, suggested amendments, and a patentability score. After changes are made, the application goes through a follow-up review, and the result is written to `patent/PATENT_REVIEW.md`. The main workflow requires a configured Codex MCP server, so check that connection before running it.

The review uses `gpt-6-astra` with `xhigh` reasoning and takes the target jurisdiction and known prior-art references into account. The listed application files and access to an MCP reviewer are required for this flow.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill patent-review -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/patent-review/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/patent-review/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill patent-review -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/patent-review/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill patent-review -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/patent-review/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep patent-review
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/patent-review/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill patent-review -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --path skills/patent-review
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/patent-review/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill patent-review -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep/tree/HEAD/skills/patent-review/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- flag unclear or functional claim language
- compare an application with known prior art
- locate gaps in written-description support and enablement
- revise claims after examiner feedback
- write a structured report to `patent/PATENT_REVIEW.md`

## Example prompts
- Review the application in `patent/` as an external patent examiner.
- Check the claims and specification for novelty, obviousness, and written-description support.
- Re-examine the revised application and save the result to `patent/PATENT_REVIEW.md`.

# Patent Examiner Review via Codex MCP (xhigh reasoning)

> **Before each reviewer slot**, follow [Selectable Reviewers](../shared-references/reviewer-backends.md):
> resolve invocation → `.aris/reviewer.json` → Claude Code default (Codex MCP)
> with `reviewer_route.py` through the canonical helper resolver, preserving this
> slot's tier, fresh contexts, source/image inputs and deterministic gates.
> Codex examples/pins below apply only to `backend=codex`; other routes use their
> own first-call/reply contract. Save the route and actual returned identity;
> unavailable selections are `REVIEW_UNAVAILABLE`. Classify acceptance from actual
> families/completion/scope. Forward invocation reviewer/model/effort overrides
> to reviewer-bearing children. Generation workers are unchanged.

Get a multi-round patent examiner review of the patent application based on: **$ARGUMENTS**

Adapted from `/research-review`. The reviewer persona is a patent examiner, not a paper reviewer.

## Constants

- `REVIEWER_MODEL = gpt-6-astra` — Model used via Codex MCP
- `REVIEW_ROUNDS = 2` — Number of review rounds
- `EXAMINER_PERSONA = "patent-examiner"` — GPT-6-Astra persona

## Prerequisites

- Codex MCP Server configured:
  ```bash
  claude mcp add codex -s user -- python3 "$HOME/aris_repo/mcp-servers/codex-exec/server.py"   # your ARIS clone's path
  ```

## Inputs

1. `patent/CLAIMS.md` — all drafted claims
2. `patent/specification/` — all specification sections
3. `patent/figures/numeral_index.md` — reference numeral mapping
4. `patent/PRIOR_ART_REPORT.md` — known prior art
5. `patent/INVENTION_DISCLOSURE.md` — invention structure

## Workflow

### Step 1: Gather Patent Context

Before calling the external reviewer, compile a comprehensive briefing:
1. Read all claims (independent + dependent)
