## What it does

The skill produces diagrams in the style of patent figures. Three paths: a method flowchart built from a list of steps, a block diagram built from components and connections, and rendering of raw DOT code. Output formats are SVG, PNG and PDF; layout engines are dot, neato, fdp, circo and twopi.

Under the hood sits a Python module, `mcp_server.diagram_generator`, with the `PatentDiagramGenerator` class. It exposes `create_flowchart`, `create_block_diagram`, `render_dot_diagram` and `add_reference_numbers`, which stamps reference numbers onto a finished SVG. Templates cover `simple_flowchart`, `system_block`, `method_steps` and `component_hierarchy`. Numbering follows the patent convention: main components 10, 20, 30, sub-components 12, 14, 16.

Install Graphviz first: `choco install graphviz` on Windows, `sudo apt install graphviz` on Linux, `brew install graphviz` on macOS. Then the Python package with `pip install graphviz`. Rendering fails without the `dot` binary, so run `dot -V` before asking the agent to draw anything.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --skill patent-diagram-generator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/patent-diagram-generator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/patent-diagram-generator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --skill patent-diagram-generator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/patent-diagram-generator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --skill patent-diagram-generator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/patent-diagram-generator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator patent-diagram-generator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/patent-diagram-generator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --skill patent-diagram-generator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --path skills/patent-diagram-generator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/patent-diagram-generator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --skill patent-diagram-generator -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- build a flowchart of method steps for a method claim
- draw a system block diagram with components and connections
- render existing DOT code into SVG or PDF
- stamp reference numbers onto a finished diagram
- produce a figure in a format accepted for USPTO filing

## Example prompts
- Create a flowchart for an authentication method with five steps and an error branch
- Draw a system block diagram: sensor, processor, memory, display — label the connections
- Render this DOT code to PDF and add reference numbers 10, 20, 30

# Patent Diagram Generator Skill

Create patent-style technical diagrams including flowcharts, block diagrams, and system architectures using Graphviz.

## When to Use

Invoke this skill when users ask to:
- Create flowcharts for method claims
- Generate block diagrams for system claims
- Draw system architecture diagrams
- Create technical illustrations for patents
- Add reference numbers to diagrams
- Generate patent figures

## What This Skill Does

1. **Flowchart Generation**:
   - Method step flowcharts
   - Decision trees
   - Process flows with branches
   - Patent-style step numbering

2. **Block Diagram Creation**:
   - System component diagrams
   - Hardware architecture diagrams
   - Software module diagrams
   - Component interconnections

3. **Custom Diagram Rendering**:
   - Render Graphviz DOT code
   - Support multiple formats (SVG, PNG, PDF)
   - Multiple layout engines (dot, neato, fdp, circo, twopi)

4. **Patent-Style Formatting**:
   - Add reference numbers (10, 20, 30, etc.)
   - Use clear labels and connections
   - Professional formatting for USPTO filing

## Required Dependencies

This skill requires Graphviz to be installed:

**Windows**:
```bash
choco install graphviz
```

**Linux**:
```bash
sudo apt install graphviz
```

**Mac**:
```bash
brew install graphviz
```

**Python Package**:
```bash
pip install graphviz
```

## How to Use

When this skill is invoked:

1. **Load diagram generator**:
   ```python
   import os
   import sys
   sys.path.insert(0, os.environ.get('CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT', '.'))
   from mcp_server.diagram_generator import PatentDiagramGenerator
   generator = PatentDiagramGenerator()
   ```

2. **Create flowchart** from steps:
   ```python
   steps = [
       {"id": "start", "label": "Start", "shape": "ellipse", "next": ["step1"]},
       {"id": "step1", "label": "Initialize System", "shape": "box", "next": ["decision"]},
       {"id": "decision", "label": "Is Valid?", "shape": "diamond", "next": ["step2", "error"]},
       {"id": "step2", "label": "Process Data", "shape": "box", "next": ["end"]},
       {"id": "error", "label": "Handle Error", "shape": "box", "next": ["end"]},
````
