## What it does

The skill runs claim text through `claims_analyzer.py` and returns a report: how many claims are independent or dependent, a compliance score from 0 to 100, and issues sorted by severity — critical, important, minor. Every issue carries the claim number, the offending term and an MPEP citation.

Three checks run in sequence. Antecedent basis: it flags terms introduced with "said" or "the" before any "a/an", and terms in dependent claims that never appear in the parent. Definiteness: subjective words like "substantially", "about", "approximately", relative terms like "large", "small", "thin", and vague constructs such as "and/or" or "optionally". Structure: claim dependencies, numbering and claim type.

The skill calls a Python module, so the interpreter has to be available first — without it the analysis will not start. Its toolset is limited to `Read`, `Bash` and `Write`. It reads claims from a file, runs the script, saves the report. If you are editing claims in the chat window, you will need to write that file yourself.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --skill patent-claims-analyzer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/patent-claims-analyzer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/patent-claims-analyzer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --skill patent-claims-analyzer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/patent-claims-analyzer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --skill patent-claims-analyzer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/patent-claims-analyzer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator patent-claims-analyzer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/patent-claims-analyzer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --skill patent-claims-analyzer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --path skills/patent-claims-analyzer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/patent-claims-analyzer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator --skill patent-claims-analyzer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/RobThePCGuy/Claude-Patent-Creator/tree/HEAD/skills/patent-claims-analyzer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- catch a term used before it is first introduced
- screen claims for indefinite language before filing
- map dependent claims back to their parents
- get MPEP citations for every flagged issue
- prepare a response to a 112(b) office action

## Example prompts
- check the claims in `claims.txt` for antecedent basis
- analyze claims 1–20 and show only critical issues
- save the claims report to `report.md`

# Patent Claims Analyzer Skill

Automated analysis of patent claims for USPTO compliance with 35 USC 112(b) requirements.

## When to Use

Invoke this skill when users ask to:
- Review patent claims for definiteness
- Check antecedent basis in claims
- Analyze claim structure
- Find claim drafting issues
- Validate claims before filing
- Fix USPTO office action issues related to claims

## What This Skill Does

Performs comprehensive automated analysis:

1. **Antecedent Basis Checking**:
   - Finds terms used without prior introduction
   - Detects missing "a/an" before first use
   - Identifies improper "said/the" before first use
   - Tracks term references across claims

2. **Definiteness Analysis** (35 USC 112(b)):
   - Identifies subjective/indefinite terms
   - Detects relative terms without reference
   - Finds ambiguous claim language
   - Checks for clear claim boundaries

3. **Claim Structure Validation**:
   - Parses independent vs. dependent claims
   - Validates claim dependencies
   - Checks claim numbering
   - Identifies claim type (method, system, etc.)

4. **Issue Categorization**:
   - **Critical**: Must fix before filing
   - **Important**: May cause rejection
   - **Minor**: Best practice improvements

## Required Data

This skill uses the automated claims analyzer from:
**Location**: `${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/python\claims_analyzer.py`

## How to Use

When this skill is invoked:

1. **Load the claims analyzer**:
   ```python
   import os
   import sys
   sys.path.insert(0, os.environ.get('CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT', '.'))
   from mcp_server.claims_analyzer import ClaimsAnalyzer
   analyzer = ClaimsAnalyzer()
   ```

2. **Analyze claims**:
   ```python
   claims_text = """
   1. A system comprising:
       a processor;
       a memory; and
       said processor configured to...
   """
   results = analyzer.analyze_claims(claims_text)
   ```

3. **Present analysis**:
   - Show compliance score (0-100)
   - List issues by severity (critical, important, minor)
   - Provide MPEP citations for each issue
   - Suggest specific fixes

## Analysis Output Structure

```python
{
    "claim_count": 20,
    "independent_count": 3,
    "dependent_count": 17,
    "compliance_score": 85,  # 0-100
    "total_issues": 12,
    "critical_issues": 2,
    "important_issues": 7,
