## What it does

The skill maps third-party channels for a single product line or business area. It runs a diagnostic interview first. The agent asks one question per message to clarify your target profile and current CRM records. Scoping stays strict because analyzing an entire company at once blurs market boundaries.

Next, the workflow ranks evidence across internal CRM wins and customer interviews. It turns account overlaps into channel conflict zones and a prioritized 2x2 matrix. It maps current distribution instead of rollout sequencing — the author delegates launch order to the companion skill `partner-ecosystem-expansion`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/partnerships-skills --skill partner-ecosystem -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/partner-ecosystem/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/partner-ecosystem/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/partnerships-skills --skill partner-ecosystem -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/partner-ecosystem/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/partnerships-skills --skill partner-ecosystem -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/partner-ecosystem/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mbfinotti/partnerships-skills partner-ecosystem
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/partner-ecosystem/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/partnerships-skills --skill partner-ecosystem -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mbfinotti/partnerships-skills --path skills/partner-ecosystem
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/partner-ecosystem/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mbfinotti/partnerships-skills --skill partner-ecosystem -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- inventory channel partner types for a specific product line
- detect channel coverage gaps and partner conflict zones
- prioritize partner categories using a weighted scorecard and 2x2 matrix
- prepare an executive partner ecosystem strategy memo

## Example prompts
- Map our partner ecosystem for the B2B enterprise tier.
- Review our channel coverage gaps and identify distributor conflict zones.
- Score and prioritize our partner types using a 2x2 matrix based on CRM data.

name: partner-ecosystem
description: Map a company's partner and channel ecosystem as a strategy exercise - an inventory of every partner type (resellers, distributors, MSPs, ISVs, SIs, affiliates, marketplaces, plus retail, creator, licensing and co-branding partners for consumer brands), partner account overlap analysis, channel coverage gaps and conflict zones, a weighted partner scorecard, and a prioritization 2x2. Use whenever the user mentions partner ecosystem mapping, a partner landscape, channel coverage, partner type classification, ecosystem whitespace, or which partner categories deserve investment, even if they never say ecosystem. Do NOT use for sequencing which category to launch next - use mbfinotti/partnerships-skills@partner-ecosystem-expansion instead.

# Partner Ecosystem Mapping

Map the full partner and channel landscape of one business area. No single canonical framework owns this discipline.

The map covers:

- Which partner types touch your customers.
- Who overlaps with your market.
- Where the coverage gaps and conflict zones sit.
- Which ecosystem segments deserve investment attention.

Built from:

- A role taxonomy: Jay McBain's trifurcation of the channel.
- An overlap mechanic: account mapping, popularized by Ecosystem-Led Growth.
- A mapping technique: Verna Allee's Value Network Analysis, Ron Adner's value blueprint.
- A prioritization pass: weighted scorecard plus 2×2.

The output is a decision artifact, never a partner program:

- Ecosystem map.
- Coverage/whitespace view.
- Prioritization view.
- A short ecosystem strategy memo.

Program design, tier criteria, conflict rules of engagement, and per-partner economics hand off to sibling skills instead (see Reference).

## Interview

Ask before mapping anything. One question per message; offer multiple-choice answers when possible. Skip a question only when the user already gave the answer.

- B2B, B2C, or hybrid? What does the company sell, to whom (ICP), at what price band, through which motion (self-serve or sales-led)?
- Which single business area or product line should the map cover? (Never the whole company at once - offer the 2-3 plausible scopes as choices.)
- What is the goal of the map: choose a channel strategy, find coverage gaps, diagnose conflict, size the ecosystem for an executive ask, or landscape before building a program?
- Current partner mix: which partner types exist today, roughly how many per type, and how many are actually active?
- What data exists: CRM closed-won history, sourced/influenced attribution fields, account-overlap data with any partner, customer tech-stack or purchase-channel information?
- Are you the platform others build on, or a participant in someone else's ecosystem? (Both can be true in different areas.)
- Constraints: who sponsors this, who must approve it, and how much capacity exists to act on it?
```
