# release

Runs a release through five subagents: security audit, E2E tests, final review, version bump, release notes. Useful right before a production deploy.

## What it does

The `release` skill fixes the order of release prep and spawns subagents one after another. First `aegis` scans for dependency vulnerabilities, hardcoded secrets, SQL injection, XSS and CSRF risks, and auth problems. Then `atlas` runs the full E2E suite, critical path tests and integration checks.

Next `review-agent` reads the audit and test results, looks at commits since the last release and any breaking changes, then returns `RELEASE_APPROVED` or `RELEASE_BLOCKED`. Only after approval does `herald` bump the version in `package.json` or `pyproject.toml`, update version constants and write a `CHANGELOG.md` entry, while `scribe` produces `RELEASE.md` with features, fixes and a migration guide.

The order matters: the version bump comes after review, because breaking changes should surface first. The run stops on a critical security finding, failing E2E tests, or a `RELEASE_BLOCKED` verdict. `--skip-security` turns the audit off, and the author does not recommend it. Flags cover `--major`, `--minor`, `--patch`, `--hotfix` and `--dry-run` for checks without a bump.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill release -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/release/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/release/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill release -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/release/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill release -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/release/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 release
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/release/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill release -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --path .claude/skills/release
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/release/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill release -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/release/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- scan dependencies and secrets before shipping
- run the E2E suite and collect pass/fail counts
- get a release verdict before bumping the version
- generate a CHANGELOG.md entry and release notes
- document breaking changes and migration steps

## Example prompts
- /release v2.0.0
- /release --minor
- /release --hotfix

# /release - Release Workflow

Structured release preparation to ship with confidence.

## When to Use

- "Prepare a release"
- "Ship version X"
- "Release to production"
- "Cut a release"
- "Ready to deploy"
- Before any production deployment

## Workflow Overview

```
┌─────────┐    ┌─────────┐    ┌──────────────┐    ┌──────────┐    ┌─────────┐
│  aegis  │───▶│  atlas  │───▶│ review-agent │───▶│  herald  │───▶│  scribe │
## Agent Sequence
| # | Agent | Role | Output |
|---|-------|------|--------|
| 1 | **aegis** | Security vulnerability scan | Security report |
| 2 | **atlas** | Run full E2E test suite | Test report |
| 3 | **review-agent** | Final release review | Release approval |
| 4 | **herald** | Version bump, changelog generation | Updated version files |
| 5 | **scribe** | Release notes, documentation | RELEASE.md, docs |
## Why This Order?
1. **Security first**: Catch vulnerabilities before they ship
2. **E2E tests**: Verify full system works end-to-end
3. **Final review**: Human-in-the-loop approval
4. **Version bump**: Only after approval
5. **Documentation**: Ship with proper release notes
## Execution
### Phase 1: Security Audit
```
Task(
  subagent_type="aegis",
  prompt="""
  Security audit for release: [VERSION]

  Scan for:
  - Dependency vulnerabilities (npm audit, pip audit)
  - Hardcoded secrets/credentials
  - SQL injection, XSS, CSRF risks
  - Authentication/authorization issues
  - Insecure configurations

  Output: Security report with severity levels
  """
)
```
### Phase 2: E2E Tests
```
Task(
  subagent_type="atlas",
  prompt="""
  Run E2E tests for release: [VERSION]

  Execute:
  - Full E2E test suite
  - Critical path tests
  - Integration tests
  - Performance benchmarks (if applicable)

  Output: Test report with pass/fail counts
  """
)
```
### Phase 3: Final Review
```
Task(
  subagent_type="review-agent",
  prompt="""
  Final release review: [VERSION]

  Review:
  - Security audit results
  - E2E test results
  - Changes since last release (git log)
  - Breaking changes
  - Migration requirements
