## What it does

The skill takes an arXiv URL or paper ID and outputs a Python project. You can choose `minimal` or `full` mode. PyTorch runs by default. Passing `--framework` switches the target to JAX or TensorFlow.

Every run generates `src/` modules, `configs/base.yaml`, and `REPRODUCTION_NOTES.md`. Inline tags reference paper equations. When papers omit parameters, the skill inserts `[UNSPECIFIED]` tags rather than guessing.

Review every audit note first. The skill isolates unverified assumptions, so training without checking them risks silent failures.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill paper2code-arxiv-implementation -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/paper2code-arxiv-implementation/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/paper2code-arxiv-implementation/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill paper2code-arxiv-implementation -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/paper2code-arxiv-implementation/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill paper2code-arxiv-implementation -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/paper2code-arxiv-implementation/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install reason-machines/trending-skills paper2code-arxiv-implementation
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/paper2code-arxiv-implementation/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill paper2code-arxiv-implementation -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/reason-machines/trending-skills --path skills/paper2code-arxiv-implementation
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/paper2code-arxiv-implementation/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add reason-machines/trending-skills --skill paper2code-arxiv-implementation -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- translate ML paper architectures from arXiv into runnable PyTorch code
- audit missing hyperparameters and vague formulas across paper sections
- generate educational notebooks with tensor shape verifications
- scaffold data pipelines and training loops from research publications

## Example prompts
- /paper2code 1706.03762 --mode full
- /paper2code 2106.09685 --mode educational
