## What it does

This skill chains five sub-skills into an automated pipeline: structuring with `/paper-plan`, plot generation via `/paper-figure`, LaTeX writing with `/paper-write`, building the PDF through `/paper-compile`, and running two revision cycles with `/auto-paper-improvement-loop`. It takes a `NARRATIVE_REPORT.md` file, an existing `PAPER_PLAN.md`, or raw experiment notes with a research direction.

You can configure the target venue (`ICLR`, `NeurIPS`, `CVPR`, `ACL`, or IEEE formats), the improvement rounds limit (2 by default), and illustration tools. For diagram generation, options include deterministic `figurespec`, `mermaid`, or Gemini, which requires a `GEMINI_API_KEY`. Reviewing and polishing run through `gpt-6-astra` via Codex MCP.

Direct Overleaf URLs are rejected at the input validation step. You must clone the remote project locally using `/overleaf-sync setup <id>` before passing its path.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill paper-writing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/paper-writing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/paper-writing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill paper-writing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/paper-writing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill paper-writing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/paper-writing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep paper-writing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/paper-writing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill paper-writing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --path skills/paper-writing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/paper-writing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill paper-writing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep/tree/HEAD/skills/paper-writing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- compile a publication-ready PDF from a draft report
- format paper structure for ICLR, NeurIPS, or IEEE venues
- generate plots and architecture diagrams for sections
- run automated review and correction passes over LaTeX source

## Example prompts
- /paper-writing "NARRATIVE_REPORT.md"
- /paper-writing "NARRATIVE_REPORT.md" — venue: NeurIPS, illustration: gemini, human checkpoint: true
- /paper-writing "NARRATIVE_REPORT.md" — venue: IEEE_JOURNAL

# Workflow 3: Paper Writing Pipeline

> **Before each reviewer slot**, follow [Selectable Reviewers](../shared-references/reviewer-backends.md):
> resolve invocation → `.aris/reviewer.json` → Claude Code default (Codex MCP)
> with `reviewer_route.py` through the canonical helper resolver, preserving this
> slot's tier, fresh contexts, source/image inputs and deterministic gates.
> Codex examples/pins below apply only to `backend=codex`; other routes use their
> own first-call/reply contract. Save the route and actual returned identity;
> unavailable selections are `REVIEW_UNAVAILABLE`. Classify acceptance from actual

> to reviewer-bearing children. Generation workers are unchanged.

## Overview

This skill chains five sub-skills into a single automated pipeline:

```
/paper-plan → /paper-figure → /paper-write → /paper-compile → /auto-paper-improvement-loop
  (outline)     (plots)        (LaTeX)        (build PDF)       (review & polish ×2)
```

Each phase builds on the previous one's output. The final deliverable is a polished, reviewed `paper/` directory with LaTeX source and compiled PDF.

In this hybrid pack, the pipeline itself is unchanged, but `paper-plan` and `paper-write` use Orchestra-adapted shared references for stronger story framing and prose guidance.

## Constants

- **VENUE = `ICLR`** — Target venue. Options: `ICLR`, `NeurIPS`, `ICML`, `CVPR`, `ACL`, `AAAI`, `ACM`, `IEEE_JOURNAL` (IEEE Transactions / Letters), `IEEE_CONF` (IEEE conferences). Affects style file, page limit, citation format.
- **MAX_IMPROVEMENT_ROUNDS = 2** — Number of review→fix→recompile rounds in the improvement loop.
