## What it does

The skill equips coding agents with detection and mitigation workflows mapped to the OWASP Top 10 2021 standard. It triggers automatically when inspecting paths under `**/auth/**` or `**/security/**`, as well as files matching `*secret*.py` and `*secret*.ts`. Its seven-step audit workflow guides the model through scope definition, vulnerability selection, code inspection, and remediation verification.

Guidance covers risks from A01 (Broken Access Control) down to A10 (SSRF), linking to dedicated reference files for each category. It emphasizes secure-by-default rules: least privilege, strict input allow-lists, using vetted crypto packages, and enforcing authorization on every endpoint rather than trusting frontend checks. Because deep remediation patterns reside in separate files inside `references/`, the agent must load those documents to deliver detailed fixes.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add NickCrew/Claude-Cortex --skill owasp-top-10 -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/owasp-top-10/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/owasp-top-10/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add NickCrew/Claude-Cortex --skill owasp-top-10 -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/owasp-top-10/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add NickCrew/Claude-Cortex --skill owasp-top-10 -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/owasp-top-10/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install NickCrew/Claude-Cortex owasp-top-10
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/owasp-top-10/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add NickCrew/Claude-Cortex --skill owasp-top-10 -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/NickCrew/Claude-Cortex --path skills/owasp-top-10
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/owasp-top-10/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add NickCrew/Claude-Cortex --skill owasp-top-10 -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/NickCrew/Claude-Cortex/tree/HEAD/skills/owasp-top-10/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- audit endpoints for broken access control and injection flaws
- review authentication flows and session cookie configurations
- catch insecure deserialization and data integrity failures
- prepare codebases for security reviews using OWASP 2021 standards

## Example prompts
- Audit auth/service.py for OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities and suggest fixes
- Check our SQL query builders against injection risks using the OWASP reference guide
- Review permission checks in our API controller for broken access control issues
