## What it does

The skill splits a security review into 20 rules across 5 categories. CRITICAL comes first: access control, authentication, data protection, injection and SSRF. Then HIGH, which is configuration and headers. MEDIUM covers API and monitoring. Each rule lives in its own file under `@rules/`, and the agent loads the ones it needs as it goes.

It works as a review protocol. The agent identifies the application type — web app, REST API, SPA or SSR — then walks the rules from critical down. Findings land in a report: severity, category, file and line, the issue, its security impact, and a TypeScript fix. The examples are concrete: parameterized queries instead of string-built SQL, bcrypt instead of MD5, an ownership check before returning a record.

The skill does not scan code on its own. It gives the agent a frame for reading your codebase, so the result depends on how much of the project the agent can see. Feed it a single file and the review stays shallow. Worth running before a deploy and after any feature that touches sensitive data.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sergiodxa/agent-skills --skill owasp-security-check -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/owasp-security-check/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/owasp-security-check/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sergiodxa/agent-skills --skill owasp-security-check -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/owasp-security-check/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sergiodxa/agent-skills --skill owasp-security-check -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/owasp-security-check/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install sergiodxa/agent-skills owasp-security-check
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/owasp-security-check/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sergiodxa/agent-skills --skill owasp-security-check -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/sergiodxa/agent-skills --path skills/owasp-security-check
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/owasp-security-check/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sergiodxa/agent-skills --skill owasp-security-check -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- check authorization before returning someone else's record
- find SQL injection in string-built queries
- replace MD5 password hashing
- close SSRF on user-supplied URLs
- strip PII from API responses and logs

## Example prompts
- audit this project for OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities
- review the auth logic in `src/routes/api`
- run a security check before we deploy

# OWASP Security Check

Comprehensive security audit patterns for web applications and REST APIs. Contains 20 rules across 5 categories covering OWASP Top 10 and common web vulnerabilities.

## When to Apply

Use this skill when:

- Auditing a codebase for security vulnerabilities
- Reviewing user-provided file or folder for security issues
- Checking authentication/authorization implementations
- Evaluating REST API security
- Assessing data protection measures
- Reviewing configuration and deployment settings
- Before production deployment
- After adding new features that handle sensitive data

## How to Use This Skill

1. **Identify application type** - Web app, REST API, SPA, SSR, or mixed
2. **Scan by priority** - Start with CRITICAL rules, then HIGH, then MEDIUM
3. **Review relevant rule files** - Load specific rules from @rules/ directory
4. **Report findings** - Note severity, file location, and impact
5. **Provide remediation** - Give concrete code examples for fixes

## Audit Workflow

### Step 1: Systematic Review by Priority

Work through categories by priority:

1. **CRITICAL**: Authentication & Authorization, Data Protection, Input/Output Security
2. **HIGH**: Configuration & Headers
3. **MEDIUM**: API & Monitoring

### Step 2: Generate Report

Format findings as:

- **Severity**: CRITICAL | HIGH | MEDIUM | LOW
- **Category**: Rule name
- **File**: Path and line number
- **Issue**: What's wrong
- **Impact**: Security consequence
- **Fix**: Code example of remediation

## Rules Summary

### Authentication & Authorization (CRITICAL)

#### broken-access-control - @rules/broken-access-control.md

Check for missing authorization, IDOR, privilege escalation.

```typescript
// Bad: No authorization check
async function getUser(req: Request): Promise<Response> {
  let url = new URL(req.url);
  let userId = url.searchParams.get("id");
  let user = await db.user.findUnique({ where: { id: userId } });
  return new Response(JSON.stringify(user));
}
// Good: Verify ownership
async function getUser(req: Request): Promise<Response> {
  let session = await getSession(req);
  let url = new URL(req.url);
  let userId = url.searchParams.get("id");
  if (session.userId !== userId && !session.isAdmin) {
    return new Response("Forbidden", { status: 403 });
  }
  let user = await db.user.findUnique({ where: { id: userId } });
  return new Response(JSON.stringify(user));
}
```
