# overleaf-sync

Keeps a local paper directory and an Overleaf project in sync, so collaborators edit in the web UI while ARIS audits run on the local copy.

## What it does

The skill pairs the `paper/` directory where ARIS skills work with `paper-overleaf/`, a git clone of your Overleaf project. The clone talks to Overleaf through the official Git bridge, so exchange happens with `git pull` and `git push`, and `rsync` moves files between the two directories.

Four sub-commands cover the loop: `setup <project-id>` for the one-time bridge, `pull` before an editing session, `push` after local work, and `status` for diagnostics. You run setup yourself in a terminal with `tools/overleaf_setup.sh`; the token goes in through a hidden prompt and stays in the OS keychain, out of the agent's reach. The same script installs a `pre-commit` hook that refuses any commit carrying a token pattern.

\`pull` does not merge blindly. Each diff hunk gets a decision: clean editorial fixes sync straight in, while number changes and new `\cite{...}` entries mean re-running `/paper-claim-audit` or `/citation-audit` afterwards. Half-finished sentences and obvious typos are flagged instead of synced. Expect a paid Overleaf plan here — the Git bridge is a Premium feature. Before `push` the agent prints `git diff --stat` and waits for your confirmation unless you passed `auto: true` upfront.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill overleaf-sync -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/overleaf-sync/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/overleaf-sync/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill overleaf-sync -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/overleaf-sync/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill overleaf-sync -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/overleaf-sync/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep overleaf-sync
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/overleaf-sync/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill overleaf-sync -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --path skills/overleaf-sync
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/overleaf-sync/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill overleaf-sync -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep/tree/HEAD/skills/overleaf-sync/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pull a co-author's Overleaf edits and review them before merging
- push ARIS audit fixes back to a shared Overleaf project
- set up project access without leaking the token into chat history
- check how far the local copy has drifted from the remote before editing
- move a finished local paper into Overleaf for joint editing

## Example prompts
- sync overleaf
- pull overleaf and show me what changed
- push overleaf with a message about the corrected numbers

# Overleaf Sync

Bridge a local paper directory with an Overleaf project so that:

- **You** can keep editing in the Overleaf web UI (or share editing access with collaborators)
- **ARIS** can read your changes, run audits (`/paper-claim-audit`, `/citation-audit`, `/auto-paper-improvement-loop`), and push fixes back

This uses the official **Overleaf Git bridge** (Premium feature). The agent **never sees your authentication token** — you do the one-time auth manually so the token lives in macOS Keychain, not in chat history or `.git/config`.

## When to Use This Skill

- You want to use Overleaf as the editing surface (better collaboration, shared with team) but still run ARIS pipelines locally
- You want to take an existing local ARIS paper and push it to Overleaf for a co-author to edit
- A collaborator made changes in Overleaf and you want to pull + diff them before continuing local work

## Constants

- **CLONE_DIR_DEFAULT** = `paper-overleaf` (sibling of existing `paper/`, NOT inside `paper/`)
- **CREDENTIAL_HELPER** = `osxkeychain` (macOS) / `manager` (Windows) / `cache` (Linux fallback)
- **TOKEN_HANDLING** = **NEVER write token to disk, env var, or chat**. User pastes it once into the terminal credential prompt; the OS keychain stores it from then on.

## Architecture

```
