## What it does

The skill starts with a plain bootstrap: clone the OpenClaw repo, copy `.env.example` to `.env`, put in one provider key (OpenAI, Anthropic or a local Ollama endpoint), install packages and hit `/api/health`. From there it supplies a docker-compose file with the app service, optional Redis and Ollama, plus healthchecks and a 4G memory cap.

For a permanent host it switches to macOS chores. `pmset` stops sleep and turns on restart after a power loss, `fdesetup` enables FileVault, and API keys move into the macOS Keychain through `security add-generic-password`. The service gets its own `openclaw` user account.

Requirements are macOS 13 or later on Apple Silicon; serving models locally is advised to have 32 GB of RAM. Without Docker Desktop or OrbStack, Node.js and a provider key, bootstrap stops early

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill openclaw-local-mac-mini -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/openclaw-local-mac-mini/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/openclaw-local-mac-mini/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill openclaw-local-mac-mini -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/openclaw-local-mac-mini/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill openclaw-local-mac-mini -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/openclaw-local-mac-mini/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills openclaw-local-mac-mini
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/openclaw-local-mac-mini/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill openclaw-local-mac-mini -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --path infrastructure/local-ai/openclaw-local-mac-mini
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/openclaw-local-mac-mini/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill openclaw-local-mac-mini -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills/tree/HEAD/infrastructure/local-ai/openclaw-local-mac-mini/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- get OpenClaw answering on a dev laptop
- move a local agent onto an always-on Mac mini
- write a docker-compose setup with healthchecks
- keep macOS from sleeping and relaunch the service after a crash
- pull provider keys out of `.env` into the Keychain

## Example prompts
- Set up OpenClaw on this machine: clone the repo, fill in `.env` and check `/api/health`
- Write a `docker-compose.yml` with OpenClaw, Redis and Ollama, then bring it up with `docker compose up -d --build`
- Turn this Mac mini into a server: no sleep via `pmset`, FileVault on, launchd job for OpenClaw

# OpenClaw Local + Mac mini Setup

Use this skill when you want to run [OpenClaw](https://github.com/openclaw/openclaw) on a developer laptop or promote it to a stable Mac mini host. Covers cloning and bootstrapping, Docker Compose configuration, Mac mini hardware optimization, networking, monitoring, and production-grade launchd services.

## When to Use

- Running OpenClaw as a private, always-on local AI agent
- Setting up a dedicated Mac mini as a home-lab AI server
- Deploying OpenClaw with Docker Compose for reproducible environments
- Optimizing macOS for headless server operation
- Monitoring a local AI service for uptime and performance

## Prerequisites

- macOS 13 (Ventura) or later on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M4 Mac mini recommended)
- Docker Desktop for Mac or OrbStack installed
- Git, Node.js (v18+), and a package manager (npm or pnpm)
- API keys for your chosen LLM provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or local Ollama)
- At least 16 GB RAM (32 GB recommended for local model serving)

## Local Setup (Any Dev Machine)

### Clone and Bootstrap

```bash
# Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/openclaw/openclaw.git
cd openclaw
# Review the upstream README for current prerequisites
cat README.md
# Copy the example environment file
cp .env.example .env
# Edit .env with your provider keys and configuration
# At minimum, set the model provider and API key
cat > .env << 'ENV'
# LLM Provider Configuration
OPENAI_API_KEY=sk-your-openai-key-here
# Or for Anthropic:
# ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=sk-ant-your-key-here
# Or for local Ollama:
# OLLAMA_BASE_URL=http://localhost:11434
# Application settings
NODE_ENV=development
PORT=3000
HOST=0.0.0.0
LOG_LEVEL=info
# Database (if applicable)
DATABASE_URL=sqlite:./data/openclaw.db
ENV
```

### Install Dependencies and Run

```bash
# Install dependencies
npm install
# Or with pnpm:
# pnpm install
# Run database migrations if needed
npm run db:migrate
# Start the development server
npm run dev
# Verify startup
curl -s http://localhost:3000/api/health | jq .
# Expected: {"status":"ok","version":"..."}
```

### Validate the Setup

```bash
# Check the API health endpoint
curl -f http://localhost:3000/api/health
# Check the UI loads
curl -s -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}' http://localhost:3000/
# Expected: 200
