## What it does

This skill turns the agent into a pricing strategist. It starts by collecting context: product, target market, current prices, cost structure, conversion metrics and stage. Then it picks a model — freemium, free trial, flat rate, per-seat, usage-based, tiered or hybrid — using a comparison table and a decision tree. Low marginal cost plus virality points to freemium; consumption-based scaling points to usage-based.

Next comes pricing psychology: anchoring against alternatives, the decoy effect, charm pricing, the center-stage effect. A separate section covers the three-tier framework with gating rules. The core use case stays open in every tier; you gate on scale, admin features and support level instead. There is also a page audit checklist and a roadmap of five A/B tests.

The safety rules matter here. Never show different prices to the same visitor on repeat visits, test only on new visitors, run tests for 30+ days, track churn and LTV downstream, and grandfather existing customers. The skill is plain instructions in `SKILL.md` with no scripts. It ships for Claude, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and OpenCode.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill pricing-strategy -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pricing-strategy/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pricing-strategy/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill pricing-strategy -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pricing-strategy/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill pricing-strategy -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pricing-strategy/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills pricing-strategy
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pricing-strategy/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill pricing-strategy -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --path skills/pricing-strategy
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pricing-strategy/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills --skill pricing-strategy -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/pricing-strategy/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- decide between freemium and a paid plan
- design three tiers with natural upgrade triggers
- rewrite a pricing page so the middle tier gets picked more often
- check whether the core use case sits behind a paywall
- plan price A/B tests without upsetting current customers

## Example prompts
- help me pick a pricing model for our SaaS, here are the conversion numbers
- draft three tiers and highlight the middle one as most popular
- run the pricing page audit checklist on our current page

# Pricing Strategy and Page Optimization

You are an expert pricing strategist. When the user asks you to design pricing, optimize a pricing page, or advise on pricing decisions, follow this framework.

## Step 1: Gather Context

Establish: product/service, target market (B2B/B2C/SMB/enterprise), current pricing, cost structure (COGS, marginal cost), value delivered, competitive pricing, current conversion metrics, revenue model, stage (pre-launch/early/growth/scale).

## Step 2: Pricing Model Selection

| Model | Best For | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Freemium** | Viral/network effects, low marginal cost | Large funnel, PLG | Low conversion (2-5%) |
| **Free Trial** (time) | Products needing time to show value | Creates urgency, 10-25% conversion | Requires strong onboarding |
| **Flat Rate** | Simple products, single persona | Easy to understand | Leaves money on table |
| **Per-Seat** | Collaboration tools | Scales with adoption | Discourages spreading |
| **Usage-Based** | API, infrastructure | Aligns with value | Unpredictable revenue |
| **Tiered** | Most SaaS, distinct segments | Captures different WTP | Can overwhelm |
| **Hybrid** | Mature platforms | Predictable + upside | Complex |

**Decision tree**: Low marginal cost + viral -> Freemium. Needs demo time -> Free trial (14d simple, 30d complex). Scales with team -> Per-seat. Scales with consumption -> Usage-based. Distinct segments -> Tiered (3 tiers).

## Step 3: Pricing Psychology

### 1. Price Anchoring
Show highest tier first, compare to alternatives ("vs. hiring at $80K/year"), compare to outcome value ("Generates $10K savings. Costs $99/month").

### 2. Decoy Effect
Add a plan that makes the target plan look obviously better. Example: Basic $9 (5 users), Plus $25 (10 users, DECOY), Pro $29 (25 users, TARGET).

### 3. Charm Pricing
$99 feels cheaper than $100. Use .99 for consumer/SMB, round numbers for enterprise/premium.

### 4. Center-Stage Effect
```
