## What it does

The skill gives agents rules for running the Open Browser Use stack. The architecture brings together a Manifest V3 Chrome extension, a native messaging host, the `obu` CLI, SDKs, and an optional stdio MCP server. Setup starts with `open-browser-use ping` to check the link. Then the agent discovers reachable targets via `open-browser-use profiles --connected`.

Agents avoid launching unnecessary browser windows. Running `user-tabs` lets the model inspect active pages first. When a dev server tab on `localhost` or `127.0.0.1` matches the task, the agent claims it using `claim-tab`. Relying on the fallback `obu-cli` session leaks stale tab groups between independent runs. Because of that, every task requires an explicit `--session-id`.

The integration interacts with the user's real browser profile. The rules explicitly forbid inspecting saved cookies or passwords. The agent must pause and request confirmation before submitting forms or uploading local files.

## Requirements
- Works with: Chrome

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add iFurySt/open-browser-use --skill open-browser-use -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/open-browser-use/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/open-browser-use/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add iFurySt/open-browser-use --skill open-browser-use -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/open-browser-use/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add iFurySt/open-browser-use --skill open-browser-use -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/open-browser-use/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install iFurySt/open-browser-use open-browser-use
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/open-browser-use/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add iFurySt/open-browser-use --skill open-browser-use -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/iFurySt/open-browser-use --path skills/open-browser-use
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/open-browser-use/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add iFurySt/open-browser-use --skill open-browser-use -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/iFurySt/open-browser-use/tree/HEAD/skills/open-browser-use/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Claim active localhost tabs without opening duplicates
- Control real Chrome browser profiles via CDP commands and CLI
- Run multi-step browser action plans using the MCP server or SDKs
- Release or preserve task tabs using finalize-tabs

## Example prompts
- Run obu ping to verify the connection and list reachable browser targets.
- Check user-tabs for an active dev server tab and claim it for this task.
- Execute the browser plan via obu run and finalize session tabs when done.

# Open Browser Use

## Overview

Open Browser Use connects an MV3 Chrome extension, a local native messaging host, a CLI, SDKs, and an optional stdio MCP server so agents can automate a real Chrome profile. It is not Codex.app-specific; adapt the commands, MCP config, and SDK examples to the agent runtime you are operating in.

## Core Workflow

1. Check setup with `open-browser-use ping` or `obu ping`. If it fails because setup is missing, read [references/installation.md](references/installation.md).
2. Pick the right browser/profile from the connected targets. See "Browser and profile handling" below before issuing browser commands.
3. Choose a unique browser session id for the current agent task before opening or claiming tabs. Prefer the surrounding runtime's conversation/session id when available; otherwise create a short unique id such as `obu-<task-slug>-<timestamp>`. Reuse that same id for every Open Browser Use command in this task.
4. Name the current browser task group before opening or claiming tabs. Use a short task label followed by ` - OBU`; if no better task label is available, use `Task - OBU`.
5. Before opening a new tab, run `user-tabs` / `user_tabs` and check whether the task continues from an existing tab, including tabs in `✅ Open Browser Use` or an earlier `handoff` task group. If the URL/title/group clearly matches the current task, claim that tab and continue from it instead of opening a duplicate. When verifying or accepting a local change, this also covers a dev server tab the user already has open (for example `localhost`, `127.0.0.1`, or a `*.local` / `*.test` host): claim and reuse it rather than opening a second copy of the same app.
6. Use the CLI for simple inspection or one-shot actions: `info`, `tabs`, `user-tabs`, `history`, `open-tab`, `navigate`, `cdp`, and `call`.
7. Use `open-browser-use run` / `obu run` for CLI-level multi-step orchestration when a small line-oriented action plan is enough and writing SDK code would be unnecessary.
