## What it does

The skill reads `FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md` from the project root and pulls out everything pricing-related: industry, audience, current model, competitors, business stage. That read is blocking — without the file the agent stops there. Anything still missing gets asked through AskUserQuestion, up to four questions per batch: B2B or B2C, preferred model, value metric, target margin, price sensitivity, competitors, revenue goal. Seven questions is the ceiling, and fewer is better.

The agent picks the structure itself and says why. Subscription plus B2B becomes SaaS Tiered with Starter, Pro, Business and Enterprise; subscription plus B2C becomes Free, Basic, Premium; a one-time purchase becomes Good, Better, Best bundles. Each tier gets a name, a monthly and annual price, a justification, a feature set and a target segment. On top of that come positioning, the psychological tactics in play, upgrade triggers and the single biggest pricing risk.

The built-in constraints are worth reading before you run it. Annual pricing is set 20–25% below monthly, the output never shows more than four tiers, and prices come from value delivered rather than build cost. Pre-revenue businesses either skip Enterprise or price it openly.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill pricing-strategist -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/pricing-strategist/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/pricing-strategist/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill pricing-strategist -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/pricing-strategist/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill pricing-strategist -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/pricing-strategist/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install ognjengt/founder-skills pricing-strategist
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/pricing-strategist/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill pricing-strategist -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/ognjengt/founder-skills --path skills/pricing-strategist
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/pricing-strategist/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill pricing-strategist -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/ognjengt/founder-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/pricing-strategist/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a SaaS tier structure with a reason behind every price
- pick the value metric that tiers scale on: seats, API calls, projects
- set annual pricing as a discount off monthly
- split features across tiers so upgrading is the obvious move
- check whether current prices clear the target margin

## Example prompts
- pricing-strategist, I need a tier structure for a B2B SaaS
- build price points for my product, context is in FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md
- what should I answer before setting subscription prices

# Pricing Strategist

## Purpose
Build a comprehensive, justified pricing strategy — tier structures, price points, positioning, and revenue optimization — tailored to the business through context and conversation.

---

## Execution Logic

**Check $ARGUMENTS first to determine execution mode:**

### If $ARGUMENTS is empty or not provided:
Respond with:
"pricing-strategist loaded, ready to build your pricing strategy"

Then wait for the user to provide context in the next message.

### If $ARGUMENTS contains content:
Proceed immediately to Task Execution (skip the "loaded" message).

---

## Task Execution

### 1. MANDATORY: Read FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md
**BLOCKING REQUIREMENT — DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP**

Before doing ANYTHING else, read `FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md` from the project root. Extract everything relevant to pricing:
- Company name, industry, product/service type
- Target audience (demographics, pain points, budget signals)
- Existing pricing model (if any)
- Competitors and their pricing (if mentioned)
- Value proposition and key features/benefits
- Business stage and revenue goals

**DO NOT PROCEED** to Step 2 until this file has been read.

### 2. Determine Which Questions to Ask
Cross-reference what FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md already provides against the Question Bank below. **Only ask questions where the answer is genuinely missing or unclear.** Never ask something the context already answers.

**Question Bank (priority order):**

| # | Question | Why it matters | Skip if... |
|---|----------|----------------|------------|
| 1 | B2B or B2C? | Changes deal size, tier logic, sales cycle, everything | Target audience section makes it obvious |
| 2 | What pricing model do you prefer or want to avoid? (subscription, one-time, usage-based, freemium, hybrid) | Determines the entire structure | Pricing model already stated in context |
| 3 | What's the primary value metric that scales with usage? (seats, API calls, storage, projects, transactions, etc.) | Drives tier differentiation and upgrade logic | Product type + features make it obvious |
```
