## What it does

The skill fixes a folder order for literature work: sources live in `Sources/Papers/`, synthesis lands in `Knowledge/`, prose grows out of it in `Writing/`, and the whole picture sits on `Maps/literature.canvas`. A paper note is saved as `Sources/Papers/{paper-slug}.md`. Synthesis goes into separate files — `Knowledge/Literature Overview.md`, `Knowledge/Method Taxonomy.md`, `Knowledge/Research Gaps.md`, `Knowledge/Claim Map.md`.

The core rule: synthesis never lives inside source notes. Every synthesis note links the source notes behind it, and every research gap carries evidence. A claim headed for writing or a rebuttal gets an Evidence Record ID, source type, claim strength and allowed wording, plus the stronger wording you may not use.

\`Writing/related-work-draft.md` and `Writing/comparison-matrix.md` appear only after promoted claims pass the evidence gate. Thin paper notes, abstract-only pages and webpage placeholders can update coverage or `To-Read`, but they cannot support conclusions in `Knowledge` or `Writing`. Extra canvases are not generated unless you ask for them.

## Requirements
- Works with: Obsidian

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --skill obsidian-literature-workflow -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/obsidian-literature-workflow/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/obsidian-literature-workflow/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --skill obsidian-literature-workflow -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/obsidian-literature-workflow/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --skill obsidian-literature-workflow -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/obsidian-literature-workflow/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar obsidian-literature-workflow
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/obsidian-literature-workflow/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --skill obsidian-literature-workflow -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --path skills/obsidian-literature-workflow
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/obsidian-literature-workflow/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar --skill obsidian-literature-workflow -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar/tree/HEAD/skills/obsidian-literature-workflow/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- file paper notes under the project folders
- turn scattered sources into a literature overview
- keep synthesis out of the source notes
- flag research gaps with evidence attached
- draft related work once claims pass the evidence gate

## Example prompts
- Build the literature review for this project: notes in Sources/Papers, synthesis in Knowledge
- Check which claims in Knowledge/Claim Map.md can move into Writing/related-work-draft.md
- Refresh Maps/literature.canvas from the current notes

# Obsidian Literature Workflow

This skill owns the **project literature workflow**.

## Main flow

```text
Sources/Papers/ -> Knowledge/ -> Writing/ -> Maps/literature.canvas
```

## Default outputs

- `Sources/Papers/{paper-slug}.md`
- `Knowledge/Literature Overview.md`
- `Knowledge/Method Taxonomy.md`
- `Knowledge/Research Gaps.md`
- `Knowledge/Claim Map.md`
- `Writing/related-work-draft.md` only after promoted claims pass the evidence gate
- `Writing/comparison-matrix.md` only after promoted claims pass the evidence gate
- `Maps/literature.canvas`

## Rules

- paper notes stay under `Sources/Papers/`
- literature synthesis does not live inside source notes
- every synthesis note must link its supporting source notes
- every research gap must carry evidence
- every promoted claim must carry an Evidence Record ID, source type, claim strength, allowed wording, and forbidden stronger wording when it may flow into writing or rebuttal
- weak paper notes, abstract-only pages, and webpage placeholders may update coverage or `To-Read`, but they cannot support `Knowledge` or `Writing` conclusions
- default graph output is `Maps/literature.canvas`
- do not generate extra canvases unless explicitly requested

## Read next
