## What it does

The skill covers S3 and compatible stores through AWS CLI commands. Bucket creation and removal, uploads with a storage class or AES-256 encryption, `aws s3 sync` with exclude patterns, pre-signed URLs, recursive prefix deletion. Versioning gets its own section: turn it on, list versions, restore an older copy, permanently delete a single version.

Access control and cost trimming come as JSON. Bucket policies allow public reads for static assets, deny unencrypted uploads, and restrict access to a VPC endpoint. Lifecycle rules move logs to STANDARD_IA after 30 days, then to GLACIER at 90, expire objects at 365, abort incomplete multipart uploads and clear noncurrent versions.

MinIO ships as a Docker run or a Compose stack across four drives with a healthcheck and console on port 9001. Two things to line up first: AWS CLI v2 configured for S3 work, and Docker plus the `mc` client for MinIO. The `minioadmin` password in the Compose example is a placeholder to replace before the service is reachable, not a default worth keeping.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS, Docker

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill object-storage -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/object-storage/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/object-storage/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill object-storage -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/object-storage/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill object-storage -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/object-storage/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills object-storage
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/object-storage/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill object-storage -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --path infrastructure/storage/object-storage
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/object-storage/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill object-storage -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- create a bucket and push a build directory into it
- expire log objects automatically after a year
- hand out a temporary link to a private file
- run MinIO on your own server with Docker
- block uploads that arrive without encryption

## Example prompts
- set up a lifecycle rule: logs to GLACIER at 90 days, expire at 365
- generate a pre-signed URL for `reports/report.pdf` that lasts an hour
- spin up MinIO in Docker with four drives and the console

# Object Storage

Configure and manage object storage solutions including AWS S3, MinIO (self-hosted), and compatible providers. Covers CLI operations, bucket policies, lifecycle rules, versioning, encryption, and the MinIO client (mc).

## When to Use

- Storing application assets, backups, logs, or media files
- Setting up an S3-compatible object store on-premises with MinIO
- Configuring lifecycle rules to transition or expire objects automatically
- Implementing access control with bucket policies and IAM
- Syncing data between local filesystems and object storage
- Serving static content from S3 or MinIO

## Prerequisites

- AWS CLI v2 installed and configured (`aws configure`) for S3 operations
- Docker installed for MinIO self-hosted setup
- MinIO client (`mc`) installed for MinIO management
- IAM credentials with appropriate S3 permissions
- Network access to the object storage endpoint

## AWS S3 CLI Operations

### Bucket Management

```bash
# Create a new bucket
aws s3 mb s3://my-app-assets-prod
# Create a bucket in a specific region
aws s3 mb s3://my-app-assets-eu --region eu-west-1
# List all buckets
aws s3 ls
# List objects in a bucket (with sizes)
aws s3 ls s3://my-app-assets-prod --recursive --human-readable --summarize
# Delete an empty bucket
aws s3 rb s3://my-old-bucket
# Delete a bucket and ALL its contents (destructive)
aws s3 rb s3://my-old-bucket --force
```

### Upload and Download

```bash
# Upload a single file
aws s3 cp ./report.pdf s3://my-app-assets-prod/reports/
# Upload with a specific storage class
aws s3 cp ./archive.tar.gz s3://my-app-assets-prod/archives/ --storage-class GLACIER
# Upload with server-side encryption (AES-256)
aws s3 cp ./sensitive.dat s3://my-app-assets-prod/data/ --sse AES256
# Download a file
aws s3 cp s3://my-app-assets-prod/reports/report.pdf ./downloads/
# Sync a local directory to S3 (upload only changed files)
aws s3 sync ./build/ s3://my-app-assets-prod/static/ --delete
# Sync from S3 to local
aws s3 sync s3://my-app-assets-prod/static/ ./local-copy/
# Sync with exclusion patterns
aws s3 sync ./logs/ s3://my-app-logs/ --exclude "*.tmp" --exclude ".git/*"
# Copy between buckets
